In 1995, Christoph "Christ" von Freydorf (vocals) and Stefan "Fini" Finauer (drums), pupils of a convent school, founded the band together with Christoph's church choir friend Jamie "Citnoh" Richardson (bass guitar). They were joined by Stephan Karl "Moik" and Franz Wickenhäuser (both guitar). The band was founded in Hohenschäftlarn near Munich. The name Emil Bulls is derived from a children's movie.
In 1996, they recorded their first CD Red Dick’s Potatoe Garden themselves. The CD is in great demand today because of its small circulation. In 1997, they attended the Emergenza festival and finished third in the European competition. For this competition they hired DJ Paul Rzyttka (known as DJ Zamzoe) who afterwards became a permanent member of the band.
After a long tour, their album Monogamy was released by the indie record label Oh My Sweet Records. The record could only be purchased through the internet or during live shows. Monogamy was noticed by Island Records, which offered the band a recording deal. Some of the songs on Monogamy and a few new songs were recorded. The result was Angel Delivery Service, released in 2001. The album was already out of stock a few months later. A new edition was released including a cover version of A-Ha's "Take on Me". The songs "Smells Like Rock'n'Roll", "Leaving You with This" and "Take on Me" were released as singles.
In May 2002, Porcelain was released through Motor Music. "The Coolness of Being Wretched" and "This Day" were released as singles. Between June 2001 and August 2002, the band played 129 live shows including Rock am Ring. In August 2003, drummer Stefan Finauer left the band to go to university. He was replaced by Fabian Fab Füß. In 2003, the band played some shows in Canada and the United States.
On June 20, 2005, The Southern Comfort was released on Pirate Records. It was the last record with DJ Zamzoe.
In February 2007, the live and acoustic album The Life Acoustic was released. The album, which was recorded in Pullach in 2006, was followed by an acoustic tour.
The following album The Black Path was released on April 4, 2008, on Drakkar records. It is the hardest record of the band so far and was recorded in Hannover by Benny Richer (Caliban, Krypteria). The single "The Most Evil Spell" was offered as a free download.
In 2009, Chrissy Schneider left the band and was replaced by Andy Bock, who was the guitar player of From Constant Visions. On September 25, 2009, Phoenix was released. "Here Comes The Fire" was offered as a free download on their website. In September 2009, a music video of "When God Was Sleeping" was released.
The band's latest studio offering, Oceanic, was to be released on September 30, 2011.
Jesus He Knows Me

Coming at you every Sunday
See that face on the billboard
That man is me
On the cover of the magazine
There's no question why I'm smiling
You buy a piece of paradise
I'll get you everything you wanted
I'll get you everything you need
Don't need to believe in hereafter
Just believe in me
'Cause Jesus he knows me
And he knows I'm right
I've been talking to Jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows I'm right
And he's been telling me
Everything is alright
I believe in the family
With my ever loving wife beside me
But she don't know about my girlfriend
Or the man I met last night
Do you believe in god
'Cause that's what I'm selling
And if you want to get to heaven
I'll see you right
You won't even have to leave your house
Or get outta your chair
You don't even have to touch that dial
'Cause I'm everywhere
And Jesus he knows me
And he knows I'm right
I've been talking to Jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows I'm right
Well he's been telling me
Everything's gonna be alright
Won't find me practicing what I'm preaching
Won't find me making no sacrifice
But I can get you a pocketful of miracles
If you promise to be good, try to be nice
God will take good care of you
Just do as I say, don't do as I do
I'm counting my blessings,
I've found true happiness
'Cause I'm getting richer, day by day
You can find me in the phone book,
Just call my toll free number
You can do it anyway you want
Just do it right away
There'll be no doubt in your mind
You'll believe everything I'm saying
If you want to get closer to him
Get on your knees and start paying
'Cause Jesus he knows me
And he knows I'm right
I've been talking to Jesus all my life
Oh yes he knows me
And he knows I'm right
Well he's been telling me
Everything's gonna be alright, alright
'Cause Jesus he knows me
And he knows I'm right
Oh yes he knows me and he knows I'm right
I've been talking to Jesus all my life
And he's been telling me everything is alright, alright
Jesus he knows me, Jesus he knows, know
Jesus he knows me, Jesus he knows, know
Jesus he knows me, Jesus he knows, know
Emil Bulls's song "Jesus He Knows Me" is a satirical commentary on the exploitation of religion and the manipulation of people's faith for personal gain. The lyrics depict a charismatic preacher or TV evangelist who presents himself as a holy figure, using his image on TV, billboards, and magazines to attract followers and gain their trust. He claims to have a direct connection to Jesus and portrays himself as the one who can fulfill people's desires and grant them access to heaven.
The song criticizes the hypocrisy and greed of such religious figures. The singer, in this case, the singer himself, highlights the contradiction between his public image as a devoted family man and his secret affairs and encounters with other individuals. He admits to having a girlfriend and meeting someone else the night before, revealing the double life he leads.
Despite not practicing what he preaches and making no sacrifices himself, the singer assures his followers that they can still achieve miracles and blessings if they follow his instructions. He emphasizes that following him and believing in him is enough to secure a place in heaven, without the need for personal effort or devotion.
Overall, "Jesus He Knows Me" is a satirical critique of the manipulation and exploitation that can occur within religious contexts, shedding light on the disingenuous actions of those who use faith for personal gain.
