Once Upon a Dream
Emily Osment Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you
I walked with you
Once upon a dream

I know you
The gleam in your eyes
Is so familiar, a gleam
I know it's true
That visions are seldom
All they seem

But if I know you
I know what you'll do

You'll love me at once
The way you did once
Upon a dream

Once upon a time
I dreamed we'd be together
In love forever

Once upon a night
I was for a never
A never ending

Once upon a time
Once upon a night
Once upon a wish
Once upon a dream

I know you
I danced with you
Once upon a night

There we were
Wishing this dance
Would last forever all time

I hope it's true
This vision is more
Than what it seems

Cause if dreams come true
I know what we'll do

We'll dance once again
The way we did then
Upon a dream

Once upon a time
I dreamed we'd be together
In love forever

Once upon a night
I was wishing for a never
A never ending

Once upon a time
Once upon a night
Once upon a a wish
Once upon a dream
Yeah yeah yeah, yeah

Once upon a night
I was wishing for a never
A never ending

Once upon a time
Once upon a night
Once upon a wish
Once upon a love

(Once upon a time)
(Once upon a night)
(Once upon a wish)
Once upon a dream

Once upon a dream

Once upon a dream
Once upon a dream

Overall Meaning

The song “Once Upon a Dream” is a love song performed by Emily Osment for the Disney movie “Sleeping Beauty”. The lyrics talk about a dream where the singer imagines a future together with the person she loves. The first verse is a reference to a previous encounter with the person who is the subject of the song. The singer says “I know you, I walked with you, Once upon a dream” which means that she feels familiar with this person as if they have already met before.

The lyrics of the song can also be interpreted as a continuation of the fairytale where the prince rescues the princess from her eternal slumber. Once she awakes, she dreams about spending the rest of her life with her savior. The second verse is all about this dream. The singer says “Once upon a time, I dreamed we’d be together, in love forever” which provides a glimpse into the romantic fantasy she has created for herself.

In the final verse of the song, the singer reminisces about dancing with the person she loves. She hopes that this dream becomes a reality and they can dance together again. The song ends with the repetition of the line “Once upon a dream” which signifies the continuation of the dream and the hope that what she dreams will come true.
