As a Ugandan, I commend Tatenda for making a good documentary about Idi Amin. I was born after his regime but there are many stories I heard from my parents and other relatives about him, including my late paternal Uncle (RIP) who was a Captain in Amin's army at the age of 18 from 1972 to 1978, when he defected from the Army and went to join the liberation forces in Tanzania via Kenya.

As a Ugandan I believe Amin would have stayed long enough in power if restrained himself from attacking Nyerere and Tanzania, that marked the end of his rule. Nyerere always wanted to attack but never had a reason to do it, I'm sure he intentionally left Amin to attack Kagera and finally got an excuse to push him out of the country

If you watch the documentaries I’ve learned you can figure out what stage the regime was at and how bad things were by Amins weight. The fatter he is the worse things were becoming. I read that at least in the early 2000s his Vice President Adrisi was still alive and quietly living in Uganda. The fate of Issac Malayamungu I haven’t been able to discover. A Ugandan friend of mine insists he died during the Tanzanian invasion but that’s all I’ve been able to go on.

Was the economy that it would seem took a downfall after the Indians were booted out benefitted the people of Uganda in a balanced way prior to the event, or was it a coIonized economy that mainly benefitted the coIonizers, like we see in African nations that are typically used anecdotally as examples of economically doing relatively well in current times? I have a feeling it was the latter. If so, Idi Amin should be celebrated for it. It was brave and patriotic move from a head of state, especially an African one.

Where as most of the details concerning the conflict were true, I am always appaled by the assertion that Amin was wrong when it came to Asians explusion! I beg to differ. Despite his many grave short comings, Amin was right on the question of Indians who lived in African countries as if they were bound to depart the following day! These were communities of people, including those still living in African countries especially South Africa and east African countries today, that neve participate in any community egagements as part of the society. They never join the defence forces or police.. same thing they do in their respective countries of origin. I witnessed Indian shop keepers who hired and get young Tanzanian girls pregnant and then sacked them after conceiving in order that they would not pay child support! Indian girls who fell in love with Africans, were sent to family relatives abroad in Canada/England to separate them from their Tanzanian boyfriends!? As a matter of fact, the presence of Indians/Asians was faulty from its inception, as it was based on segregation and racism. When the British traded on slaves and needed ownership of slaves, they preferred Africans as slaves and upaid cheap labour. Africans were transported to Britain, north America, the Carribean islands, etc. But when there opportunities for PAID LABOUR arrived, eg railways construction, the British sent Indians/Asians to east african countries and South Africa. That was a concerted effort to form a wedge class consisting of foreigners to Africa to help marginalize natives economically and suppress any ability to raise up against the oppressive colonial masters in power at the time. Removal of Asians was a step towards complete dispensation of Ugandan independence devoid of any legacies or elements of oppression intentionally put in place by colonial masters, to destroy Africans economic uppity. Asians/Indians in Africa are an on-going reminder of British marginalization/oppression of Africans. For many years these Asians/Indians were used by western multinationals to loot African resources through back doors, and syphon and export illegally, the hard earned foreign currencies (through sales of tea, sisal and coffee), to UK, Canada and USA, without using national financial institutions as they avoided taxes! An Indian was attacked by armed robbers on the Kenya/Tanzania border of Namanga some years ago; with millions of hard currency in his SUV! Thats is, trying to avoid transfer through Tanzanian banks. Nobody would argue that Indians of African heritage are no where to be found in the Indian government, today, let alone not seeing the glimpses of them in major cities/towns.They can be found in marginalized communities in forests! At least in Africa we have seen Asians/Indians in governments and even in popular liberation movements including the ANC.. though being opportunists as they are, they sided with colonials governments against the Africans, during which they attended segregated schools, lived in segregated communities, that is until they realised independece was inevitable, for Africans. One can not blame an African country that tries to build its economy on initially marginalized majority, the Africans. Including Zimbabwe. Under such circumstances a shift from foreign owned economy to locals based economy .. will experience a down turn in trajectory. But such a bold move is inevitable for any country. thats why land owners in Uk arent whites, and the same can be seen in rest of the world. No African owns land in USA, China or India! Every body can appreciate the fact that Ugandan economy did well under Museveni, following the oust of Amin and presidents that followed! No Asian/Indian economy is based on Africans or foreigners, but their own people! So why would African economies be based on indians or other foreigners in order to perpertuate the colonial legacy? It is senseless. Amin was right on that.

Was Samuel Doe the Liberian president that was stripped naked and tortured in public by a faction of the military in the country at the time? I believe he had one of his ears severed during the event. I remember watching a video of the incident as a child in Sierra Leone. My recollection of that particular period is that there was a lot going on in Liberia, albeit I was too young to comprehend all that was unfolding.

Id amin dada made a mistake of killing archbishop luwumu this made the Anglican church allover the world to go against him , the killing of then chief justice ben kiwanuka made him to be hated by baganda who are the biggest tribe in uganda, the expulsion of the Indian community from uganda caused both economic problems and sanctions from the British government this weekend the economy and brought suffering to Ugandans which made him un popular among ugandans , the killing of Netanyahu in the entebbe raid was also another reason why Israel gave weapons to Tanzania when the kagera conflict broke up then the last mistake was to anex kagera region from Tanzania this was an excuse to all his enemies around the world either to attack him or give support to Tanzania. I was 10 years and my dad was an army officer in the uganda army

You are forgetting that Libya's soldiers were captured by the Tanzanian soldiers and were held in Mwanza prisons for months during the war. I was a young living in Mwanza when the Libyan Tupelov missed the oild depos and the Bugando hospital. In fact they did not miss it, Tanzania knew that Libyan/Ugandan planes were to attack Mwanza and we all were told to make sure that no lights after 7:00 p.m. have to be on. You are history is very skewed and leaning against Tanzania. Check your facts a bit carefully.
