Growing up in Britain with Asian roots, Prash had always sought to reconcile his varied musical influences from The Prodigy and Rage Against The Machine through to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Talvin Singh. Indeed, working towards Engine-EarZ’s debut album the focus is to smash glass divides between genres and ideologies; fusing indigenous musics from around the world with elements of dubstep, drum’n’bass, electronica and rock.
On December 14th Engine-EarZ Experiment release their debut limited edition release, an instrumental double bill on vinyl & download; ‘Kaliyuga’ backed up by ‘Introspector’.
Through remixing artists from Sean Paul through to Basement Jaxx, the collective has already drawn attention across the entire BBC Radio network, with plays from the likes of Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens, Ras Kwame, Mary-Anne Hobbs, Nerm & D-Code, Tom Robinson, Friction, Nihal with a second BBC Maida Vale session having just taken place in December with Mista Jam for 1XTRA.
Engine Earz Experiment have started to make a name for themselves both as djs and a live set included playing alongside a list that boasts Caspa, Rusko, Shy FX, Skream, Benga as well as headlining spots at the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury 2009 and the London Mela.
So with growing support from fans and critics alike, some big remixes and festivals in the pipeline, and an album to drop in 2010, it looks like things are only getting started for the Engine-EarZ Experiment!

I won't hold it no more
You can have it, take it, use it
I'm holding your torch
I won't hold it no more
You can have it, take it, use it
I'll need both my hands to hold my own
I'm in your room - we've
Been here for weeks now
Your windows are painted with nothing real
I hear music filtering through it all
I press my ear against the wall
I'll need both my hands to hold my own
I need only one light the light from one
Before it gets dark, before it's all gone
I know I have to put yours down
The light is going dim
Our torches, they are both fading
I'll need both my hands to hold my own
I need only one light the light from one
I'll need both my hands to hold my own
I need only one light the light from onе
I'll need both my hands to hold my own
I need only one light the light from one
I'll need both my hands to hold my own
I need only onе light the light from one
I'll need both my hands one light
The light from one
I'll need both my hands one light
The light from one i'll need both my hands
One light the light from one
In these lyrics, the singer is metaphorically using the concept of a torch to represent a source of guidance or inspiration that they have been holding onto for someone else. However, they have now decided that they will no longer hold onto this torch and are allowing the other person to have it, to take it, and use it for themselves. This could suggest that the singer has been providing support or guidance for someone else but has realized that they need to focus on their own needs and journey.
The line "I'll need both my hands to hold my own, I need only one light the light from one" conveys the idea that the singer recognizes the importance of self-sufficiency and self-reliance. They understand that they should prioritize their own growth and development and that they only need one source of light, one source of inspiration to guide them on their own path. This could symbolize the singer's decision to let go of relying on external influences and instead focus on their own inner light or intuition.
The next verse describes the singer being in someone else's room for weeks, surrounded by a painted window that represents a distorted or false perspective of reality. Despite this, the singer can hear music filtering through and presses their ear against the wall, suggesting a longing to connect with something genuine amidst the artificiality.
The repetition of the lines "I'll need both my hands to hold my own, I need only one light the light from one" in the last two verses emphasizes the singer's determination to prioritize their own growth. They acknowledge that the torch, or source of guidance, they had been holding is losing its brightness alongside the fading torch of the other person. However, through this realization, the singer remains steadfast in their decision to rely on their own light, their own inner strength, to navigate their journey.
Overall, these lyrics delve into themes of relinquishing external dependencies, prioritizing self-growth and self-reliance, and seeking authenticity amid a world filled with illusions. The repeated lines serve to emphasize the singer's determination to hold their own ground and find their own path illuminated by their own inner light.
