Enslavement of Beauty was formed in January 1995 by Ole Alexander Myrholt (vocals & lyrics) and Tony Eugene Tunheim (guitars & composing). The band spent the subsequent years composing and recording material and thereby developed their expression.
In the summer of 1998, Enslavement of Beauty recorded the demo CD "Devilry & Temptation" which gained them a deal with Head Not Found / Voices of Wonder.
This resulted in the 1999 release "Traces o' Red" which received very positive response. In November 2000, the beauticians headed back to the studio to record their second album, "Megalomania", accompanied by drummer Asgeir Mickelson (Borknagar/Spiral Architect) and bass player Hans-Aage Holmen.
Musically the band still sounds very melodic and deeply inspired by classical music but with a sharper metal edge and a truly hell-bent rock 'n' roll attitude. Lyrically Enslavement of Beauty is more direct approach but still highly influenced by the poetic beauty of Shakespeare and De Sade's works.
Nostalgia Grows
Enslavement of Beauty Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A lethal doze of her fertile pose
What will all these inklings mean
If I reveal how deep the spiral go
Crystal fecund fancies flew
Emerged through blood-red veils
Sky-blue yet dead grey - the winds blew
Forced my lofty head to lean
Is she not sinless and pristine?
Is it not always gold what glows?
She hides her hideousness in evergreens
But be cautious her blade is keen
When held down by an angel pose
Her talons can't be foreseen
When the nightmare initiates from a rose
And this hale nostalgia grows...
In Enslavement of Beauty's song "Nostalgia Grows", the lyrics speak about looking back on what could have been and contemplating the consequences of revealing deep secrets. The imagery of a "lethal doze" and "crystal fecund fancies" suggest a sense of danger and temptation, while the metaphor of a rose represents the duality of beauty and danger. The lyrics caution against being too trusting, as the song warns of hidden hideousness and dangers that may not be visible at first. The nostalgia that grows throughout the song highlights a feeling of loss and longing for something that may never have been truly attainable.
The use of poetic language and metaphors in "Nostalgia Grows" adds depth and complexity to the lyrics, creating a rich tapestry of emotions and imagery. The lyrics speak to the human experience of looking back on past relationships or experiences, and wrestling with the difficult emotions that arise. The song's haunting melody adds to the sense of melancholy and longing conveyed in the lyrics, making it a powerful and emotive piece of music.
