Entombed's debut album was Left Hand Path, a cult favorite that established the band as a popular death metal band. The follow-up, Clandestine, was just as popular. These first two albums were unique in that they featured what was sometimes referred to as a "chainsaw" guitar sound which became a staple of Swedish death metal worldwide. It was created using the Boss Heavy Metal distortion pedal and a Peavey amplifier. This iconic guitar tone spawned the niche sub-genre referred to as 'entombedcore' which consists of just hardcore bands using the infamous chainsaw tone as part of their sound.
After the Gods of Grind tour, Entombed began changing their sound into a mix of groove metal, hard rock and death metal frequently called death n roll. Although this may have turned off many fans, it established their mainstream and critical reputation. Wolverine Blues and Hollowman are widely considered classics of early 1990s death metal, but were followed by problems with various record companies.
In 1999, Entombed released Uprising, which was an anti-commercial return to the band's roots. The follow-up, Morning Star returned to Hollowman and Wolverine Blues style metal. They have since released 2003's album Inferno, a continuation of the 'death n roll' style that has become their trademark sound.
2006 saw the release of new music from Entombed, with the When in Sodom EP on June 6 (or 06/06/06), and the full length album Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments was released on July 9th, 2007. This album is the group's first release with drummer Olle Dahlstedt (of Alpha Safari and ex-Misery Loves Co.), who replaced long-time drummer Peter Stjärnvind in 2006.

STATE OF EMERGENCY
Entombed Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But what could it be?
You look for a hero
Well don't look at me
You look for solutions
But there's none you can find
You believe in something
That's only in your mind
But hate has made you blind
And you've spent the last ten years of your life
In this emergency
So please don't just sit there
Let's try to break out
From all the hatred
Suspicion and doubt
Try to change your life
That is no life at all
Try to break down the imaginary wall
And if you couldn't be bothered
Well then, my friend, you'll fall
And spend all the rest of your life
In this emergency
The lyrics to Entombed's song State of Emergency convey a sense of frustration with a world that seems to be in constant crisis. The song opens with a series of questions that reveal the singer's lack of faith in humanity: "You're looking for something / But what could it be? / You look for a hero / Well don't look at me / You look for solutions / But there's none you can find / You believe in something / That's only in your mind." The repeated use of the word "you" creates a sense of distance between the singer and the listener, as if the singer is watching from a distance as the world falls apart.
The second verse of the song is more urgent, with the singer urging the listener to take action: "So please don't just sit there / Let's try to break out / From all the hatred / Suspicion and doubt / Try to change your life / That is no life at all / Try to break down the imaginary wall." The use of the word "we" in this verse suggests that the singer is not just an observer, but a participant in the struggle to overcome the world's problems. However, the verse ends on a note of warning, with the singer suggesting that those who fail to act will be doomed to spend their lives in a state of emergency.
Overall, the lyrics to Entombed's song State of Emergency speak to the frustration and despair that many people feel in the face of a world that seems to be constantly teetering on the brink of disaster. However, the song also offers a message of hope, suggesting that by working together we can overcome the challenges we face.
