Strange Brew
Eric Clapton; Cream Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Strange brew, kill what's inside of you.

She's a witch of trouble in electric blue,
In her own mad mind she's in love with you.
With you.
Now what you gonna do?
Strange brew, kill what's inside of you.
She's some kind of demon messing in the glue.
If you don't watch out it'll stick to you.
To you.
What kind of fool are you?
Strange brew, kill what's inside of you.

On a boat in the middle of a raging sea,
She would make a scene for it all to be
Ignored.
And wouldn't you be bored?
Strange brew, kill what's inside of you.

Strange brew, strange brew, strange brew, strange brew.
Strange brew, kill what's inside of you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Strange Brew by Eric Clapton's band Cream explore the dangers of getting involved with a troubled and manipulative person. The song states that this person, represented as a "witch of trouble in electric blue," is in love with the listener. However, the listener is warned that this person is also a "demon" who is "messing in the glue" and will cause harm if they are not careful. The chorus repeatedly urges the listener to "kill what's inside of you" to avoid falling victim to this strange and dangerous relationship.

The verses of the song paint a vivid picture of this person's behavior, describing how they would "make a scene" on a boat in the middle of a raging sea and how they are capable of manipulating others into ignoring their destructive behavior. The use of the color "electric blue" to describe this person adds to the surreal and unsettling tone of the song. The repetition of the phrase "What kind of fool are you?" serves as a warning to the listener, urging them not to fall for this person's manipulations.

Overall, the lyrics of Strange Brew serve as a cautionary tale about the dangers of falling for a manipulative and unstable person. The song's dark tone and vivid imagery create a haunting portrait of the risks involved in these kinds of relationships.

Seems to me baker was born and died at exactly the great times ever. As a kid in the 50’s a young man in the 60’s a man with cash in the 80’s and passed before the covid take over.

Best 3 things about this vid:
1) Ginger's cape
2) Eric's bottom lip
3) The Elephant hanging from Jack's bass.
