Laleina
Escape With Romeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That's the time you raise your head
That's your lot in life, Laleina
I can't blame ya
Laleina
Arty-tart, la-de-da
Can your part get much sadder?
I can't blame ya
Laleina
Run your hand through your hair
Paint your face with despair
That's your lot in life, Laleina
I can't blame ya
Laleina
Run your hand through your hair
Paint your face with despair
That's your lot in life, Laleina
I can't blame ya
Laleina
When the sun goes to bed
That's the time you raise your head
That's your lot in life, Laleina
I can't blame ya
Laleina
...(incomplete)...
The lyrics of Escape With Romeo's song "Laleina" seem to explore the idea of fate and what people are destined to do with their lives. The singer of the song, Laleina, appears to be a somewhat tragic figure who is resigned to her lot in life. As the sun goes down, she rises up, almost as if she is only able to come alive at night. The lyrics describe her as "arty-tart" and suggest that she paints her face with despair. This implies that she is an artist or performer of some kind, and that perhaps her art is a reflection of her own sadness.
The repetition of the phrase "that's your lot in life, Laleina, I can't blame ya" reinforces the idea that Laleina is trapped in her circumstances, and that she has no choice but to live the life that she is living. The final repetition of the first verse at the end of the song brings the lyrics full circle, suggesting that Laleina's fate is a cycle that she cannot escape.
Overall, the lyrics of "Laleina" seem to be a commentary on the limitations of human agency and the idea that sometimes we are simply stuck with the life that we are given. It is a bleak and somewhat poignant worldview, but one that is nevertheless compelling.
