It's alright, baby's coming back
And I don't really care where he's been
It's alright, baby's coming back
And I won't turn him around this time
I'll be your cliff (you can fall down from me)
I'll be your bridge, your flowering tree
You can still depend on me
And I'll be (the ticking of your clock)
And I'll be (the numbers on your watch)
And I'll be (your hands to stop the time)
I'll even be your danger sign
It's alright, baby's coming back
And I don't really care where he's been
It's alright, baby's coming back
And I won't turn him around this time
And I'll be (your grace your dignity)
And I'll be (your night your destiny)
And I'll be (your comfort and your ease)
I will be your storm at seas
And I'll be (your sharp intake of breath)
And I'll be (your work I'll take no rest)
And when the world falls to decline
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
It's alright, baby's coming back
And I don't really care where he's been
It's alright, baby's coming back
And I won't turn him around this time
(Make it easy on yourself tonight)
The lyrics to Eurythmics's song "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" speak of a woman's love for her partner who has left and is now returning to her. The repetition of the phrase "It's alright" acts as a reassurance to herself, as she declares that she doesn't care where he has been, and that she won't try to stop him from returning like she had before. She proclaims that she will be there for him always and in any capacity, whether it be as a sturdy support for him to lean on as she compares herself to a cliff or a ledge, or as a symbol of danger that he should be wary of. She will be his grace, dignity, night, destiny, comfort, ease, and even his storm at sea, refusing to relent in her devotion to him.
The song captures the complex emotions that come with a tumultuous relationship, acknowledging the difficulties and fights that may arise while still expressing an unwavering commitment to one's partner. It's a bittersweet love song that acknowledges the downsides of the relationship but still wholeheartedly celebrates the reunion of the couple.

Love how she goes all gospel at the end. One of Eurythmics' most under rated songs yet one of my favourites at the same time.
@joshuajouet
Probably my favourite Eurythmics track then and now. Just stunning from beginning to end.
@Geminiman019
Fun fact. Duo Eurythmics shot same day (June 21st 1985) two music videos. First was "There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)" and second is "It's Allright (Baby's Coming Back)".

So 80’s, it hurts. I love it.
@ajs41
I agree, although I think they were going for a retro 60s or 70s feel with the video.

@colindempsey716
It was 1991, but just shows how well they transitioned!
@The_Real_Chris
As a young teen in the early 80’s, I recorded this to VHS and studied the hell out of it to figure out how it was made. It was one of the biggest inspirations that resulted in me becoming an animator.
