Ayllón adopted the stage "Eva" from her maternal grandmother, Eva, who began teaching the young María music at an early age. As a child and teen, Eva Ayllón sang in school competitions and later on television and radio. Throughout the early 1970s, Eva appeared in many música criolla musical groups such as Rinconcito Monsefuano, La peña de los Ugarte, Los Mundialistas o Callejón and Los Kipus. By 1975, Eva began to pursue a solo singing career, touring internationally by 1979. In 1989, Eva formed Los Hijos del Sol (Children of the Sun), a supergroup made up of Peruvian musical stars in an effort to promote Peruvian music through performance and recording.
To date, Eva has produced over 20 records. Her latest release is Kimba Fa, an exploration of the musical styles that she has performed over the last three decades[1]. In 2004 she released Eva! Leyenda Peruana (Eva! Peruvian Legend), which was her first album produced in the United States. Today, Eva continues to tour and lives in New Jersey with her Peruvian-American husband and childrenIn her music, Ayllón blends indigenous Peruvian, African and Spanish influences into a style known as musica criolla.

Saca tu machete Cipriano (saca tu machete)
Afina tu lampa José (afina tu lampa)
Saca tu machete Cipriano (saca tu machete)
Afina tu lampa José (afina tu lampa)
Saca tu machete Cipriano (saca tu machete)
Afina tu lampa José (afina tu lampa)
Ay! mayoral, ay! mayoral
Ay! mayoral, ay! mayoral
The lyrics to Eva Ayllón's song "El mayoral" portray the pain and hardship experienced by the singer, who is likely a worker or citizen being oppressed by their "mayoral." The mayoral is a figure of authority who imposes strict control and demands on them, depriving them of rest. The repetition of "Qué dolor siento en mi pecho cuando está de madrugá" highlights the intense emotional and physical pain the singer feels in their chest when they are forced to work before dawn. The mayoral's constant demands and reprimands prevent them from finding any respite.
The lyrics also mention Cipriano and José, who are urged to wield their machetes and tune their lamps. This could suggest a call to resistance or unity among the oppressed, urging them to be prepared for the hardships that await them under the mayoral's control. The repetition of "Ay! mayoral, ay! mayoral" serves as a lament or cry of frustration and despair towards the mayoral's influence and power.
Overall, "El mayoral" is a song that reflects the struggles and suffering endured by individuals under oppressive authority, highlighting the feelings of pain, exhaustion, and a longing for freedom and rest.
