Zero
Evanescence Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

My reflection, dirty mirror
there's no connection to myself
I'm your lover, I'm your zero
I'm the face in your dreams of glass
So save your prayers
for when you're really gonna need 'em
throw out your cares and fly
Wanna go for a ride?

She's the one for me
She's all I really need
Cause she's the one for me

Emptiness is loneliness and loneliness is cleanliness
and cleanliness is godliness, and God is empty just like me
Intoxicated with the madness, I'm in love with my sadness
Bullshit fakers, enchanted kingdoms
The fashion victims chew their charcoal teeth
I never let on that I was on a sinking ship
I never let on that I was down
You blame yourself, for what you can't ignore
You blame yourself for wanting more

She's the one for me
She's all I really need

She's the one for me
She's my one and only

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Evanescence's song Zero seem to present a persona battling with his own identity and reflections. What he sees in the mirror is a dirty mirror and he feels no connection to himself. He refers to himself as "your lover" and "your zero", suggesting that he is trying to fulfill someone else's desires and needs rather than his own. He also refers to himself as the "face in your dreams of glass", suggesting that he is merely an illusion in someone else's imagination. This persona advises "save your prayers for when you're really gonna need 'em, throw out your cares and fly." Here the singer seems to be suggesting that we should focus on ourselves and our needs rather than trying to fit into someone else's mold.

The second verse of the song delves deeper into this persona's psyche. He personifies emptiness, loneliness, and cleanliness, implying that his current state of emptiness and loneliness is a result of personal choices rather than external factors. He confesses to being "in love with [his] sadness," and refers to others as "bullshit fakers" and "enchanted kingdoms." The final lines of the verse suggest that he has been in a sinking ship but has never shown it, and he blames himself for wanting more. The chorus repeats the phrase "She's the one for me" four times, emphasizing his belief that this person is all he really needs.

For one Amy is one of the most amazing singers out there. if someone's jumping up and down singing of course there voice isn't gonna be perfect no artists is, it just doesn't happen, you get tired and your voice strains more trying to keep up, and to be fairly honest I think Amy does pretty damn well, these arent easy sets to do especially with her kind of music, so again, I would honestly like to see any of you try and then come back and complain, until then, don't judge. As for her take on Zero, I love it, just like her take on Thoughtless and heart shaped box, she's one amazing woman

People, a cover CANT ruin a song it would ruin it if this would somehow become the original song replacing it. They obviously did this cover because they admire The Smashing Pumpkins. I love both bands, hating and fighting in a comment section is for immature children.

@Gresaaa

i like this version better the guitars and drums at the beginning are so much more heavier and personally i prefer this to the smashing pumpkins version. nevertheless, both bands are amazing

@MuchSpice 😂 I love both but it's cute to read my old messages now as a 30 yo

@sayvictor93

es la mejor interpretacion que escuchado de esa cancion y evanescence es el mejor, mas que todos

@poetgirl

No band can cover a song and make it sound EXACTLY like the band that made the song. I like it when a band changes the tempo a bit and takes out a few things. That makes it a good cover in my opinion. I like this cover and it's one of my favorite covers by Evanescence.

@papeleshigienicos
