Question Of Time
Exit Eden Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got to get to you first
Before they do
It's just a question of time
Before they lay their hands on you
And make you just like the rest
I've got to get to you first

Well now you're only fifteen
And you look good
I'll take you under my wing
Somebody should
They've persuasive ways
And you'll believe all they say

It's just a question of time
And it's running out for you
It won't be long until you'll do
Exactly what they want you to
It's just a question of time

I can see them now
Hanging around
To mess you up
To strip you down
And have their fun
With my little one

It's just a question of time
And it's running out for you
It won't be long until you'll do
Exactly what they want you to

Sometimes I don't blame them
For wanting you
You look good
And they need something to do
Until I look at you
And then I condemn them
I know my kind
What goes on in our minds

It's just a question of time
And it's running out for you
It won't be long until you'll do
Exactly what they want

It's just a question of time
And it's running out for you
It won't be long until you'll do
Exactly what they want you to

It's just a question of time
It's just a question of time
It's just a question of time (a question of, a question of time)

It's just a question of time (a question of, a question of time)
It's just a question of time

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Exit Eden's song "Question of Time" describe the urgency to protect someone from falling prey to the manipulative and exploitative ways of others. The singer of the song wants to get to the person before they do, as it is only a matter of time before they are influenced and forced to do things against their will. The person in question is only fifteen years old, and the singer wants to take them under their wing to protect them. The song alludes to the idea that there are others who want to "mess" with the person, strip them down, and have their way with them, and it's only a matter of time before they succeed.

The song portrays the struggles of protecting young and vulnerable people from being victimized by those who would take advantage of them. The lyrics condemn those who would do harm to such individuals and call for people to take responsibility for those under their care. The song's instrumentation and melody are intense, to emphasize the severity of the situation and express the urgency of the singer's desire to protect the person.

The four objects, discovered accidentally, when combined are magic. In that way, they are metaphors for the ladies themselves. A rock singer, a symphonic singer, a Broadway singer, and a 1940's starlet. When you put them together... Magic.

A curse is also a kind of magic. ;-)

Can we just appreciate the fact that they rented a big house for a weekend and shot like 5 or 6 music videos in one session? That's efficiency! I am especially fond of all the shots of the girls walking around the room and looking at stuff in wonderment for filler scenes. Brilliant.
