2. fiN - A British Indie DIY band from South West London.
The Southwest London schoolmates-turned-twenty-something guitar pop visionaries Jonny Garner, Simon Harding, Kerry Lambert and Luke Joyce, decided on leaving behind their grunge covers band roots in November 2008, utilising their childhood roots in Motown, The Beatles, Led Zep and Nirvana and channelling their creative forces for the reinvention of alt.rock.
fiN wrote, recorded & produced their debut album themselves in a disused shelving factory in Wandsworth; true DIY and total freedom. "It started out quite heavy but we didn't want to be just a heavy band. We wanted to be a band that wasn't afraid to write pop songs as well as still have the indie-rock element."
Mixed by Muse, Two Door Cinema Club and Foo Fighters impresario Adrian Bushby, after the band sent a track to him on a whim, they set the mark as "the heaviest indie band around." The band aren't just treading fresh paths with the sound either.

8. "Rebecca “FIN” Simonetti is a New York multimedia artist—in one disturbing installation she hung a replica of a lamb from the ceiling with harnesses; blobby, pink, flower-shaped objects sprung from its carcass. Her music has a bit of that same horror-film ruthlessness. She approaches pop from a clinical distance, slicing it up then smiling as it staggers forward. [...] FIN takes similar cues from performers like Björk and FKA twigs, who use arty dissonance and broken beats to heighten emotional intensity and create deeper personal expression. But FIN’s vision owes more to Kraftwerk, ferreting out the alienating, artificial clockwork at modern pop’s heart."

Can I find it in my phone
How many likes until I don’t feel so alone
My life is on display for all these strangers to appraise
But if I died tomorrow would they just unfollow anyway
Or could I be like Jesus and the 27 club
And get the world to really love the idea of who I was
And fund my facial upgrades for when I get too old
If you want pretty for forever then I’m happy to oblige
Be my puppet master
Make sure to like share and subscribe
I’m my fucking business
I don’t have a private life
And if I don’t announce my status my lack of truth becomes a lie
Because my audience and I
Are thirsty for exposure
And i’ll take off my shirt
To get my real message heard
Yeah my audience and I
Are thirsty for exposure
I’ll take off my shirt
To get my real message heard
How far are you willing to go
To make your dreams come true
Can you curate your identity
Until there’s nothing left of you
We need something to market
You gotta get your numbers up
Your musics really great kid,
But the socials not enough
So I’ll make sure i’m straight passing
To guarantee my fame
And make sure not to tarnish
My only professional name
Thousands of opinions on my face
From day to day
It’s enough to drive the best and most secure slightly insane
Whether you’re crying from the comments
Or made out to be a god,
You lose your own humanity
Here’s the wheel and you’re the cog
My audience and I are thirsty for exposure
I’ll take off my shirt to get my real message heard
Yeah my audience and I are thirsty for exposure
I’ll take off my shirt to get my real message heard
Yeah my audience and I are thirsty for exposure
I’ll take off my shirt to get my real message heard
Do you like that?
Do you like that?
Now friendship is a follow,
So if you don’t follow me then
That must mean our fragile friendship
Is coming to an end
Right?
Real life is necks craning down to LED
And comparing our own lives to reality TV
But the script doesn’t even stop when we press power down
We’ve forgotten how to notice
When people are actually around
Yeah, Lets go out to dinner
And check our instagrams all night
I’ll have some validation please with a side of truffle fries
You gotta post more content
Keep your audience engaged
The curtains never closing
And your life is now a stage
But nobody is perfect
There’s no need to apologize
And no one wants to fucking see
What you had for dinner last night
So it’s time to power down
Alexa take a nap
I need a breath of fresh air
Before I’ll be coming back
To our virtual reality
We’re already living in
Artificial intelligence
Might be starting to win
And my audience and I are thirsty for exposure
I’ll take off my shirt to get my real message heard
Yeah my audience and I are thirsty for exposure
I'll take off my shirt to get my real message heard
Yeah my audience and I are thirsty for exposure
I’ll take off my shirt to get my real message heard
Yeah, we’re all so fucking desperate for indecent exposure,
So i’ll take it all off to get my real message heard
The lyrics of "Exposure" by FIN delve into the themes of desperation for connection, the impact of social media on self-image, and the commodification of personal identity. The song explores the idea that in today's society, one's worth is often measured by the number of likes and followers they have, leading to a constant need for validation and approval.
The opening lines reflect the singer's yearning for connection and validation, questioning if they can find it through their phone and how many likes it would take to alleviate their feelings of loneliness. They express the vulnerability of having their life on display for strangers to judge, wondering if their online community would stay loyal even if they were to pass away.
The lyrics touch on the desire for fame and recognition, referencing the "27 club" and the hope of being revered like Jesus. There is a hint of cynicism as the lyrics suggest that one's face and appearance can be monetized and their facial features upgraded as they age. The singer acknowledges the power dynamics at play, referring to themselves as a puppet and the audience as the puppet master, highlighting the need for constant engagement and approval.
The song continues to examine the pressure to curate one's identity and maintain a specific image to ensure success. It criticizes how opinions from others, whether positive or negative, can have a profound impact on one's mental well-being. The lyrics suggest that the pursuit of exposure often comes at the cost of losing one's own humanity and becoming a mere cog in the machine.
The chorus musically portrays the thirst for exposure, using the metaphor of taking off one's shirt to symbolize revealing the "real message" behind the facade. This can be interpreted as a yearning for authenticity and genuine connection amidst the superficiality of the social media landscape.
Overall, "Exposure" by FIN is a thought-provoking commentary on the influence of social media, the desire for fame, and the potential loss of personal identity in the pursuit of validation and exposure.

I feel like this is the first song I've heard that really touches on this issue, about how our online personas aren't who we really are and websites will push and push creators to pump out as much content as possible to keep their viewers happy. It kind of saddens me that that websites value how much content people make rather than the quality of it.

If you're looking for another song about similar topics, Will Wood's "Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll" has a very similar theme
Str4nger ! !
There’s actually a song kinda like this too. It’s called “Paid In Exposure” by NateWantsToBattle. Although it’s not necessarily about our online personas and content, it’s about how celebrities have to act in one way, in order to be a celebrity. In order for people to see them as someone important. This song kinda reminds me of Paid In Exposure, and I totally recommend it :)

I get the point of this but I don’t like the music or the general vibe of the song, just not my style I guess.

GoldenDayGecko
You probably won't see this but whatever
You're one of my favorite artists at the moment and I love this song, it talks about a issue that I feel most people experience in some way or another and is (strangely?) Comforting. I have some pretty bad stuff going on in my life including that I might get some really bad news at the doctors tomorrow so I'm probably going to listen to this on repeat for days since i find it soothing in ssome weird way. But like I said at the start You're an amazing artist but if it becomes a choice between your mental health and content I hope you put yourself first.
