Not Enough
Face to Face Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Talk talk talk don't talk to me
You've got something I just don't need
Wait wait wait don't wait for me
I've been waiting for you to leave
Want to try and try
Try and make it right
How long it takes you just don't know
And another day
And there's nothing changed
How long it takes you just don't know

Talk talk talk don't talk to me
You've got something I just don't need
Wait wait wait don't wait for me
I've been waiting for you to leave

Because we are what we are
And sometimes it's not enough

Try and try, try to make it right
But I just don't know
Another day and there's nothing changed
And I just don't know

Because we are what we are
And sometimes it's not enough

Overall Meaning

The song "Not Enough" by Face to Face seems to be about a person who is fed up with a relationship that is no longer working out. The repetitive lines "talk talk talk don't talk to me" and "wait wait wait don't wait for me" suggest that there has been a breakdown in communication and that the singer is tired of hearing excuses or promises that are never fulfilled. The phrase "you've got something I just don't need" further implies that there is a fundamental mismatch or incompatibility between the two parties.

Despite this, the singer wants to make things right and is willing to "try and try" to salvage the relationship. However, there seems to be a sense of futility in these efforts, as "how long it takes you just don't know" and "there's nothing changed" seem to indicate that the other person is not reciprocating or is not capable of changing. The repeated phrase "because we are what we are" and the final line "sometimes it's not enough" suggest that ultimately the differences between the two individuals are insurmountable, and that even the most determined efforts to fix things may not be enough to save the relationship.

Overall, "Not Enough" is a melancholy but resigned reflection on the limits of love and the painful realization that sometimes, despite our best efforts, things just don't work out.

They have been playing their "triple crown" shows in Chicago the last 3 days and played this one every night.....makes my 37 year old ass feel 15 again.  Hands down one of their best songs

Noel Huerta

One of their best I agree

That's great! I saw them in Philadelphia during the farewell tour and it was probably the best night of my life. Mid-way through the show they walked off stage for a quick break, and Trever walked back on and started doing Everyone Hates a Know-It-All and eventually the others joined in. I was so happy they played SOMEthing from Ignorance is Bliss! I wish they wouldn't pretend the CD never happened, even though Trever Keith's solo act is pretty cool.

It’s a damn shame this EP is not widely available. It’s some of their finest work. The version of I Want that is on here is epic.

It is limited availability now

@scott roe it has been since the start, really. They followed up after a resign w Big Choice and re-recorded most of these tracks. Over It isn’t even mentioned in their Wikipedia. The claim is Disconnected debut was on Big Choice.

I agree. Hands down the best song on this EP. I saw Face to Face live finally in Hollywood. One of the best shows I've been to.

Thatz so kewl! Yeah i was sure to get into the pit for Disconnected, and Walk the Walk. They didn't play this song though, they played a lot from their self titled cd, not that im complaining. Yeah I heard about Trevor's side project, what is it called?
