I could've been wrong
It seems like it's never quite like I thought it'd be the reality,
Am I where I belong?
It's not like they said it feels like most everything's out of focus
In my mind I'm trying to make some sense out of what I left behind
The difference in who I am and the one want to be
A different perspective now and the world I see is in front of me,
And everything's wrong the grass was so much greener when it was next to me
Now it's under me, am I where I belong?
The world, it only seems to change from where you look much different
Than the pictures that they took it's nothing like they said it would be
The lyrics of Face to Face's song Out Of Focus reflect on the heart-wrenching transition from hope and certainty to disappointment and uncertainty. The opening lines, "I knew what I wanted and I was fixed on it, I was sure of it, I could've been wrong," show the contrast between the singer's optimism and self-doubt. The next line suggests that life doesn't always turn out as we expect, "It seems like it's never quite like I thought it'd be the reality, am I where I belong?"
The song draws on the theme of disillusionment and the fact that everything in life is always in motion, "It's not like they said it feels like most everything's out of focus." The line above reflects on the falsity of concepts we were once sold on that seemed like they were unbreakable. In the same vein, the singer is trying to find reasons behind the reasons why things are like how they are. The second verse, "A different perspective now and the world I see is in front of me, and everything's wrong," and "The grass was so much greener when it was next to me," acknowledges that life is dynamic, and we have to adapt to accept our place in it.
In summary, the song reflects on the complexities of life and how our experiences are subject to change over time. The song invites us to navigate the waters of life's uncertainties, wherever it carries us.
