Gone to the Moon
Fastbacks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Some day when one guy in the world
Finally ownh everything and when
I'm sure that he's not thinking of me when he says:
"Hi there, I really am your friend - Sorry, I'm doing all I can for you and I really mean that!"

That's about the time I'll be going to the moon
And then that's where I'll stay, far away from here
Someday when I can't take this place

I'll take a trip out into space
I think I mean it!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Fastbacks' song "Gone to the Moon" convey a sense of disillusionment with modern society and a desire to escape its pressures. The first verse imagines a future where one individual has amassed all the resources and power in the world, and even in that scenario, the singer doubts that they would be remembered or valued by this person. The connection between material wealth and true friendship is called into question here, suggesting that the singer feels isolated and insignificant in the face of such overwhelming capitalism.

The chorus then provides a solution to this problem: the singer plans to travel to the moon and stay there permanently. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for withdrawal from society or even suicide, depending on how one reads the lyrics. Either way, the moon symbolizes a far-off, unattainable place, beyond the reach of the corrupt and oppressive systems of Earth. By going there, the singer would be escaping the confines of the oppressive society that they feel trapped within.

Overall, "Gone to the Moon" offers a powerful and poignant commentary on the impact of societal pressures on our individual psyches and the lengths some people may go to in order to escape them.

Perhaps the most under appreciated band from Seattle? This is SO good.

@startervisions

Yup...a perfect pop band with perfect pop songs

@marcgrossman980

Also the best band from Seattle.

@dannyspelman1468

I discovered this band about eight years ago, whilst watching the movie Hype! I was about 27. I couldn't believe I had never heard them before. I've loved them ever since. I'm addicted. Every album is amazing. Some songs are better than others but ALL are good. I don't know whether to be happy as one of the enlightened to discover their brilliance or sad because they really do not get the recognition, exposure or appreciation they deserve. I'll stay positive and stick with the former for now.

@ExplodingTacoCat

hell yeah this band rules. you should listen to the band “ovens” they sound a lot like the Fastbacks

@dannyspelman1468

@@ExplodingTacoCat I'll definitely check them out.

@@dannyspelman1468 https://youtu.be/ea5LfrFuOBU here they are man, their lead singer claimed that the fastbacks are the whole reason he began this band, you can also see a lot of early weezer influence

@dannyspelman1468

@@ExplodingTacoCat Excellent! I love early Weezer!

@ExplodingTacoCat

Danny Spelman yeah weezer was tight, also if you dig the ovens sound their lead singer tony Molina does solo work which is just as great, check out his albums “dissed and dismissed” and “songs from Mateo county” those are two great albums that literally sound so much like Fastbacks/Pinkerton and blue
