Everybody Loves My Baby But My Baby Don't Love Nobody But Me
Fats Waller Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everybody loves my baby
but my baby don't love nobody but me
nobody but me
Yes
everybody wants my baby
but my baby don't want nobody but me
that's plain to see!
I'm his sweet Judy
and he is my loving man!
No time to do his duty
loves me like no other can!

Everybody loves my baby
but my baby don't love nobody but me
nobody but me
Everybody wants my baby
but my baby don't want nobody but me
that's plain to see!

Now when my baby kisses me
upon my rosy cheeks -
I just let those kisses be
don't wash my face for weeks!

Everybody loves my baby...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the Fats Waller and His Rhythm's song "Everybody Loves My Baby" showcase a person who is loved by everyone, but their love is reserved solely for their significant other. The singer takes pride in being the only one that their lover cares about, stating plainly, "my baby don't want nobody but me, that's plain to see!" The chorus repeats this sentiment while also emphasizing the popularity and desirability of their partner. However, the singer remains confident and secure in their relationship, describing themselves as "his sweet Judy" and their partner as their "loving man." They even cherish the kisses from their partner so much that they resist washing their face for weeks after receiving them.

This song highlights the concept of possessiveness and exclusivity in relationships, which was a common theme in jazz and popular music during the early 20th century. Fats Waller's upbeat and catchy tune, along with the playful lyrics, make it an enjoyable and memorable song to this day.

I think this original 78 RPM version it's absolutely too much better than every post remastered one. I can't imagine what a great sound had Fats and his great band live! Everybody love these babies!

One thing that has always amazed me about this band is the way that Fats was able to joke and play with the music while the rest of the band was playing like hellfire was chasing their pants! :)

@randyknight00

I was born in1966 and there are times I wish I was back in the swing days.people where so much more elegant and stylish too.i just about heard about everything in everyn genre of music, and if your open minded enough and listen to this guy Fats', it just revives a new feel of excitement deep in your spirit!!!

As the late Ralph Sutton once said, "The man could do no wrong."

The band ('Fats Waller & His Rhythm') was really at the top of its game in 1940, and Victor's recording engineers had made big improvements since the first band sessions in late 1934. This feels like a Cadillac V8 pulling out onto the freeway on a sunny day.

I really wish there was more of this type of old swing jazz in the Fallout games. Maybe its just a little too old for the time period Fallout is inspired by but it really seems like it would fit the vibe.
