Faun's roots in medieval music, combined with their influences drawn from Celtic folk, contemporary rock and Arabic rhythmic tones and fused with driving beats has gained the band a quickly-growing crowd of followers.
Faun was founded in early 2002 in Munich, Germany, and has since performed at more than four-thousand shows in a variety of locales, including festivals, medieval markets, concert halls and churches throughout Europe.

Faun was also a late 1960's studio project featuring George Tickner and Ross Valory (ex-Frumious Bandersnatch), both of whom would later be in the original line-up of Journey. Their sound was a unique blend of pop, jazz, 1930's swing and psych.

Gab für immer meinen Liebsten her
Seine wilde Rose blüht nicht mehr
Weh, weh, mein Herz ist schwer
Gab im Frühling meinen Liebsten her
Seine wilde Rose blüht nicht mehr
Mein Liebster zog in die Schlacht dahin
Und rief „Solang ich siegreich bin,
Wird diese wilde Rose blühen"
Ich gab der Blume seinen Nam'
Sie blühte stolz und unbeugsam
Bis eines Nachts dann der Winter kam
Weh, weh, mein Herz ist schwer
Gab im Frühling meinen Liebsten her
Gab für immer meinen Liebsten her
Seine wilde Rose blüht nicht mehr
Weh, Weh, mein Herz ist schwer
Gab für immer meinen Liebsten her
Seine wilde Rose blüht nicht mehr
Mir ist, oh, so kalt, er kommt nie mehr
The lyrics of Faun's song "Wilde Rose" tell a story of love, loss, and grief. The singer's heart is heavy, as she gave up her beloved in the spring, and his wild rose no longer blooms. Her lover went off to battle, promising that as long as he was victorious, the rose would continue to bloom. The singer gave the flower his name, and it bloomed proudly and unyielding until the winter came.
The singer's heart is weighed down with the knowledge that she will never see him again. A letter arrives, telling her that he died as a hero in a distant land, with a rose firmly in his hand. The singer is overcome by grief, as she realizes that her love is gone forever, and the wild rose will no longer bloom. She is left feeling cold, and knowing that she will never see him again.
Overall, the song's lyrics are a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by soldiers, and the profound grief experienced by those left behind. It evokes strong emotions in the listener, as it speaks to the universality of love and loss.
