We Got to Get Out of This Place
Fear Lyrics

In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refused to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in tryin'

Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
You'll be dead before your time is due, I know
Watch my daddy in bed a-dyin'
Watched his hair been turnin' grey
He's been workin' and slavin' his life away
Oh yes I know it

(Yeah!) He's been workin' so hard
(Yeah!) I've been workin' too, baby
(Yeah!) Every night and day
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!)

We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
'cause girl, there's a better life for me and you

Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true, yeah
You'll be dead before your time is due, I know it

Watch my daddy in bed a-dyin'
Watched his hair been turnin' grey, yeah
He's been workin' and slavin' his life away
I know he's been workin' so hard

(Yeah!) I've been workin' too, baby
(Yeah!) Every day baby
(Yeah!) Whoa!
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!)

We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life for me and you
Somewhere baby, somehow I know it

We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life for me and you
Believe me baby

I know it baby
You know it too

Overall Meaning

The song "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" by Fear is about two people who are trapped in a rundown, desolate part of town and desperately want to escape to pursue a better life. The opening lines paint an image of a bleak and hopeless environment where the sun never shines and the people have given up on trying to improve their situation.

The singer turns to his girlfriend and tells her that she is too young and beautiful to stay in this place, and that they need to leave before it's too late. He references his dying father, who has been working himself to the bone for his whole life and has nothing to show for it except for his gray hair. The singer can see that he is headed down the same path and wants to break the cycle of poverty and despair.

The chorus drives home the point that they need to get out of this place or risk never having a chance at a better life. The repeated use of "yeah" adds a sense of urgency and desperation to the lyrics. The song ends with a note of determination, as the singer declares that he knows there is a better life out there for him and his girlfriend, and they are determined to find it.
