In April 2009, a new lineup was announced with Cazares returning and Gene Hoglan as drummer. Bell and Stroud are both reprising their respective roles, and the band completed a seventh studio album entitled Mechanize. Former members Christian Olde Wolbers and Raymond Herrera (both currently playing in Arkaea) dispute the legitimacy of the new lineup, and a legal battle is underway from both parties. The band has performed at three Ozzfests as well as the inaugural Gigantour and has had singles in the US Mainstream Rock Top 40 and albums in the Billboard Top 40, 100, and 200. The band has sold more than 1 million albums in the US alone.

I was 18 years old when this album came out. Man, does this bring back memories. Saw FF twice in one week with Obituary in a very small venue back then. Epic times.

As great as many of the later records were, and how they perfected their sound on those, this is possibly their best album still. That mixture of Goflesh-inspired industrial stench, the early 90's grindcorish/death metal vibe, with the melancholic alt metal melodic stuff, and just that sheer raw brutality on the whole record...

@NathanJ Rodey throughout the 90s napalm death released several albums that drastically deviated from their grindcore trademark. I think those albums get unfairly overlooked. They slowed down a little, put more rhythm and structure to their songs and they used more hooks without sacrificing heaviness.

@Jeremy Scout I will have to check that out. The bands I think were writing this sound in the late 80s and early 90s were Fear Factory, Meshuggah, Sepultura and to a lesser degree Pantera.

Couldn't agree more very nostalgic and Raymond's drumming I think is very difficult and very very inspiring across the board.This whole album has elements of everything very unique and haunting sounds,to melodic,fast,brutal playing.My fave album by far.
