Special
Ferris & Sylvester Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

There's nowhere nowhere I'd rather be
But I'm dislocated from reality
No place no place I can truly hide
Gotta fight this head on
There's nowhere nowhere I'd rather be
But I'm dislocated from reality
No place no place I can truly hide
Gotta fight this head on

Nowhere nowhere
I'd rather be
That special nowhere, the bridge in between
What I'm waking and what's just out of reach
That special nowhere but it's just out of reach
I'm just out of reach

If only I knew what it meant
But perhaps there's bliss in ignorance
Not sure what steps I'm meant to take
Feels like there's so much at stake
If only I knew what it meant
But perhaps there's bliss in ignorance
Not sure what steps I'm meant to take
Feels like there's so much at stake

Nowhere nowhere
I'd rather be
That special nowhere, the bridge in between
What I'm waking and what's just out of reach
That special nowhere but it's just out of reach
I'm just out of reach

Nowhere nowhere
No place to hide
That special nowhere
Mask the aching inside
Nowhere nowhere
No place to hide
That special nowhere
Mask the aching inside

Nowhere nowhere
No place to hide

Don't you even go there
My special nowhere

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ferris & Sylvester's song "Special" convey a sense of disconnection and disorientation from reality. The repeated phrase "Nowhere nowhere I'd rather be, but I'm dislocated from reality" suggests a feeling of being lost or disconnected from the world around them. Despite the desire to be somewhere else, there is a recognition that they cannot hide from their current situation and must confront it head-on.

The lyrics also touch on the idea of a "special nowhere," a place that exists between what one is currently experiencing and what is just out of reach. This special nowhere represents a state of uncertainty and confusion, where they are unsure of what steps to take or what the future holds. There is a sense of longing for clarity and understanding, expressed through the line "If only I knew what it meant, but perhaps there's bliss in ignorance."

The overall theme of the song seems to be navigating through a state of dislocation and confusion, searching for a sense of belonging and purpose. It explores the tension between wanting to escape and hiding from reality, while also acknowledging the need to confront and embrace the challenges and uncertainties that come with it.

Hoewel de muziek mij iets te bekends klinkt (hoewel zo'n Isley Brothers-scheurgitaar hier goed werkt), is de tekst uiteraard geweldig. Hoopvol, met mooie, lieve details: "And we'll start over again, In a house from the magazine/Safe inside a picked fence, With a great big trampoline/And we'll have so many friends, they'll live right on down the street/And we'll never be scared again, we will be a family." Veilge woorden.

Как я хотела бы не понимать о чем говорится в песне, а просто слушать красивую музыку…

I rarely listen to the lyrics of pop songs very closely, but as I wrote in the comments of the live version, this is extremely touching. The beautiful melody and vocals combined with the very serious subject of domestic violence. I have a lump in my throat when I think that there are millions of women and children who suffer from this. However, the song is by no means depressing, on the contrary, it creates a cosy, eerie atmosphere and gives hope. I'm really looking forward to the gig in Cologne!

@kitrific

This is sweet but this isn’t a pop song!
