Miss Blue
Filter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Could you, stay long enough for me to say goodbye
You, can be free, as long as you're with me
If you, could see, the real me you'll bleed
If you, could see, the real me I'd breathe
Could you, still breathe, long enough for me
Could you, still be, long enough for me

When do you think I'll be okay?
When do you think I'll be okay?

If I should stay, when do I pray?
If I should stay, where do I begin?
Do you think I, should watch you die?
Should, we close our eyes and say goodbye

When do you think I'll be okay?
When do you think I'll be okay?
When do you think that I'll be okay?
When do you think I'll be o-kay?

Hey you miss blue
You think that I'm well to do
Hey you miss blue
I fell in love with you
Hey you miss blue
I think about you that's true
Hey you miss blue
I hate it when you cry
Hey you miss blue
I hate it when you say goodbye
Hey you miss blue
I hate it when you say goodbye

When do you think I'll be okay?
When do you think I'll be okay?
When do you think I'll be okay?
When do you think I'll be okay?

Hey you miss blue
You say goodbye
You say goodbye
Don't say goodbye
You say goodbye
Goodbye...

Goodbye...
Goodbye...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Filter's song Miss Blue express themes of love, loss, and heartbreak. The opening verse, "Could you stay long enough for me to say goodbye" suggests a reluctant and bittersweet farewell to a loved one. The chorus repeats the question, "When do you think I'll be okay?" as a lament for the end of this love. The lyrics' tone is mournful, with a sense of longing and sadness permeating throughout the verses.

In the second verse, the singer wonders when he will find peace after the end of this relationship. He questions whether he should stay and watch his loved one die or close his eyes and say goodbye. The repetition of the chorus highlights the sense of uncertainty and question, as if the singer cannot find an answer to his questions about love and loss.

The repeated use of "Hey you miss blue" throughout the song signifies the image of his loved one in his mind, and the effect she has on his sadness. The final lyrics, "You say goodbye, Don't say goodbye" repeat a sense of desperation, as if the singer is trying to hold onto the memory of his loved one and their relationship. The song leaves a haunting sense of the depth of lost love in its wake.

This is honestly one of the best written songs from one of the most underrated bands of the 90's. I love Filter, D'arcy and the 90's.

So underrated...

@BubbaZen10

Makes me cry and destroys me every time, and no one gets it.

@kristycika5546

Filter was not underrated. You just didn't hang out with the right people

@jdawg1692

@@kristycika5546 I was 7 when this song came out so itโ€™d be pretty hard to hang out with other Filter fans

@kristycika5546

โ€‹@@jdawg1692 Exactly. They were very popular when they were relevant. People who think bands like this are underrated are usually listening when the wave is over and people have moved on.

I kept listening to this song over and over and over again, 20 years old, heartbroken. Back in 2000. This song helped me so much. It still feels overwhelming listening to it 21 years later. I love Filter.
