"I clearly remember how Fireside started. All of us were huge hardcore fans and listened to bands like Gorilla Biscuits and Youth of Today, and when the guitarist of Gorilla Biscuits started a new band called Quicksand I pre-ordered a seven-inch single. When it arrived I phoned Pelle Gunnerfelt and he biked from the other side of town to my home and we listened to it together, and the first thing we said was “We’re starting a new band and it’s gonna sound like this” (laughs). That was the decisive moment when Fireside started; Quicksand were the role models together with Fugazi. "
Having released five albums to date, Fireside have since developed a personal style. Their most recent album, Get Shot, was released in 2003 via V2 Records.

Fireside Lyrics

Missed all the lucky spots,
But I guess that was on purpose
Nothing comes my way,
Well not today anyway
I guess I wouldn't have to feel this way
It feels like nothing stayed the same
One accident almost never comes alone
But it's not that easy
I don't have that courage
I wouldn't force you
If you don't want to
It's all up to you
If you don't want to
Have you ever considered me,
Not being what you want
The lyrics of "Wheeler" by Fireside convey a sense of hopelessness and resignation, as the singer laments their inability to catch a break or find any kind of luck in their life. They suggest that perhaps missing out on these opportunities was intentional on their part, but regardless, they feel as though nothing ever comes their way. The repeated phrase "not today anyway" underscores this feeling of being stuck in their current circumstances.
The singer references a past accident and alludes to the possibility of needing help from someone, symbolized by the line "I know you're only a call away." However, they express hesitation and doubt about reaching out for that help, acknowledging that it's not as easy as just picking up the phone. They also emphasize their willingness to respect the other person's boundaries and not force them into anything they don't want to do. The final line, "Have you ever considered me, not being what you want," suggests a fear of rejection and a sense of unworthiness.
