John Watts recorded and performed as 'John Watts' during 1981-83 before forming The Cry in 1984. Watts later continued with a new incarnation of Fischer-Z in 1987, with him being the only original member. Albums were released with a similar line-up until 1995 when John Watts returned to being 'J M Watts', 'Watts' and John Watts. In 2002 the moniker was revived once more for the album "Ether". There was a 2004 reunion of the original band for one short show which featured on the Garden Party DVD which was released along with the Fischer-Z Highlights 1979-2004 25th anniversary compilation album.
After this John continued performing and recording solo with the most recent album being 2005's 'Real Life Is Good Enough', "It Has To Be" (2006) and "Morethanmusic & Films" (2009).
In august 2010 John Watts had a couple of shows in the Netherlands with his current band (Sam Walker on drums and Matthew Gest on keyboard) playing good old Fischer-Z repertoire. He presented this band as "the new Fischer-Z". Though John Watts focuses on his solo efforts more than on Fischer-Z (no new releases under that name) lately he revives the band when concert tent to be focused on that period of his live.

Die Zeit: während ich das schreibe muss ich natürlich im Hintergrund Musik und am besten den Song laufen haben um mich besser rein denken zu können. Es wird ja kaum jemand interessieren aber was solls, ich fang einfach mal an.
Wenn ich mir das vorstelle, es sind schon 25 Jahre vergangen seit die Berliner Mauer gefallen ist. 20 Jahre nach Beendigung vom 2. Weltkrieg der die Weltgeschichte bis heute geprägt hat, da war ich schon 3 Jahre alt.
So betrachtet ist diese Zeitspanne sehr kurz, die Zeit vergeht immer schneller je älter man wird, so kommt mir das vor. Die Zeitspanne des bestehens unserer Welt im Universum die man sich überhaupt nicht vorstellen kann, für mich ist das so wie wenn eine Stechmücke in einen glühenden Draht hinein fliegt und kurz Helligkeit durch das verglühen von deren Fliegenkörper erzeugt wird. Wenn ich diese Zeitspanne wissenschaftlich benennen müsste würde ich eine Zahl mit 10 hoch Minus 999.999 annehmen gemessen an einer Millisekunde wie lang unsere Erde im Universum bestand haben wird, so kann ich mir das wenigstens annährend vorstellen in Bezug wie schnell die Zeit nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg bis zu meiner Geburt und von da bis zum Fallen des eisernen Vorhangs und bis heute gedauert hat. Sorry, aber da kommt man von einem Thema ins andere wenn man so wie ich erst mal anfange nach zu denken, das kann Diskusionen auslösen die ganze Nächte dauern können. Es muss ja niemand lesen.
Als ich 13 Jahre war wünschte ich mir ganz plötzlich von heute auf morgen 18 Jahre alt zu sein was aber leider nicht gelang, da dauerte die Länge von einem Tag für mich wie die Zeit der letzten gefühlten 25 Jahre, das war einfach schrecklich für mich so lange warten zu müssen.
Beim Indien Urlaub im Hotel: ich sitze da am Pool mit meiner Freundin und genieße den Tag. Ein paar Meter von mir entfernt lässt ein junger Mann die Messerspitze auf seiner Handfläche mit dem Griff senkrecht nach oben locker tanzen. Meine Gedanken die ich mir bei diesem Anblick machte, toll was für eine Fertigkeit und wo man sowas wohl erlernen kann. Ich also mal zu dem Typen hin und auf Englisch gefragt wo er das mit dem Springmesser auf dem Finger tanzen lassen denn gelernt hätte - bei der Israelischen Armee sagte er mir habe er das gelernt. Er macht jetzt erst mal Urlaub um dem Krieg daheim entfliehen zu können.
Ich war ja noch nie in Israel und versuche mir das immer vorzustellen wie das wohl sein mag wenn man mit einem Raketeneinschlag zu rechnen hätte weil ich ja dort auch gerne mal hin reisen würde um die wichtigsten Religionsstiftungs-Stätten der Welt zu besichtigen, damit ich ein besseres Gefühl für die Geschichte entwickeln kann.
Da frage ich den Israeli mal wie das denn in Israel ist, wie man sich das in etwa vorstellen könne wenn es Fliegeralarm gäbe.
Ich bin ja sozusagen ein Nachkriegskind obwohl ich mich selbst nie so gefühlt hatte weil ich mit diesem Krieg meiner Großeltern ja eigentlich nichts zu tun habe, man kann mich doch nicht für deren denkweise die von einem Diktator beeinflusst wurde verantwortlich machen. Ich hätte mich lieber erschießen lassen als klein bei zu geben oder hätte das selbst in die hand genommen uns zu befreien. Der Stauffenberg, so rühmlich finde ich das nicht der hätte das auch wirkungsvoller machen können, sterben muss jeder mal. Ich muss jetzt erst mal ziwischenspeichern sonst geht vielleicht bald gar nichts mehr. :-))
Damals in der Schule, da haben wir Filme anschauen müssen die mit dem Holocaust zu tun hatten und als der Kalte Krieg immer bedrohlicher wurde auch an Selbstschutz-kursen teil nehmen. Da lernte man wie man sich bei einem Atomangriff schützen sollte.
Zu der Zeit als ich noch ein kleiner Junge war, da folgen die Starfighter noch so knapp über unsere Köpfe in Deutschland hinweg das man sich die Ohren zu halten musste weil man dachte der stützt jeden Moment ab oder wirft irgendwelche Bomben. Ich habe da immer mächtige Angst bekommen von den lauten Flugzeugen.
Um jetzt mal zum Ende von diesem Gedanken zu kommen und um nicht zu weit auszuholen hier die Quintessenz (da musste ich jetzt erst mal nach dem Wort googeln ob ich das so richtig schrieb):
Der Israeli mit dem tanzenden Springmesser auf seiner Handfläche sagte mir das man in Tel Aviv keine Angst haben braucht - so weit fliegen die Raketen nicht, sagte er zu mir auf Englisch. Also, wenn ich ich Israel Urlaub machen wolle, dann soll ich mir in Tel Aviv ein Hotelzimmer buchen da ist man sicher. Und nun höre ich im Fernsehen in den Nachrichten das die Raketen doch weiter fliegen, das ist eine echte Bedrohung. Ich weiß nicht wie ich als Israli darauf reagieren würde, ich würde mir jedenfalls was einfallen lassen um dieses Problem lösen zu können was schwierig ist wegen der Religion. Und der Song Cruise Missile drückt diese Gefahr gut aus.
Gewalt darf kein Mittel sein um Probleme zu lösen weil damit nur neue geschaffen werden.
