Five Iron Frenzy started as a local side-project of Reese, Keith, Micah, and Scott's band Exhumator. Although the original intent was for the band to stay local and help support the local music scene, Five Iron Frenzy (FIF, or Five Iron) signed to Frank Tate's 5 Minute Walk records in 1995 and was touring nationally within a year. They reached the peak of their fame around 2000, with the release of All The Hype That Money Can Buy. They were known for dressing up in wacky costumes and fundraising for social causes. In December 2002, they announced that they would be breaking up after a final tour. They played the final show of the tour on November 22, 2003 at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, which was recorded for The End Is Here (disc 2) (this disc features that show in its entirety and was sold with the band's album, The End is Near). This show had an attendance of over 4,000 people.
On November 22, 2011, they announced via social media outlets and a week-long online scavenger hunt that they were recording a new album. The entire project was crowd funded in under an hour and met with a reunion show and touring. The results of the endeavor, Engine of a Million Plots, was released on November 26th, 2013. All members of the 2003 lineup participated in the project, with the exception of bassist Keith Hoerig, who was replaced by original guitarist Scott Kerr (who had left the band in 1998).
Solidarity
Five Iron Frenzy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To all of the resistors,
To the workers broke and cryin',
On the road that leads to Zion:
The mountain, the mountain,
We will all climb all of God's children,
In God's own time.
[Chorus]
Unity the verb, solidarity.
You the truth have heard, solidarity.
Rise up to the call, solidarity.
United we can never fall.
Let one voice ring throughout the world,
Let truth be sown, let us lay our own lives down,
A greater love was never known.
While the light is growing dim,
Make war to keep your Faith in him,
Knowing what has made us free,
Unity, not uniformity.
One world, one voice, in trenches we stand tall,
One truth that has found us,
One shepherd for us all.
The lyrics to the Five Iron Frenzy's song Solidarity speak to the solidarity, unity, and strength of those who resist oppression and fight for justice. The song starts with a call to all the brothers, sisters, and resistors, a call that is inclusive and welcoming. It acknowledges the struggles of those who are broke and crying, inviting them to join the journey towards Zion.
The chorus of the song emphasizes the importance of unity and solidarity as a verb, something that must be actively practiced and lived out. The call to rise up and be united is powerful and inspiring, reminding us that together we can never fall. The song highlights the importance of laying our own lives down for a greater love, and the need to sow truth throughout the world.
The bridge of the song reminds us to make war to keep our faith in him. It urges us to fight for justice, and to hold onto our convictions even when the light is growing dim. The song highlights the idea that unity is not uniformity, and that we can stand tall in our diversity with one voice, one truth, and one shepherd for us all.
