Just in case for anyone who is confused about not getting the curse

You need to collect all of the journals, that is what you have to do to get the curse, there 5 journals in the tall tale, 1 at Backbone Island, 1 in the middle of the catacombs where the 3 doors are by the middle door on the rock to your right, in the far left door 1 next to the lava jump on your left side, in the middle door it is on a pill of bones after you fight the skeletons and move to the next room it will be on your left side, last door to the far right, there is a journal in the second crack when you do the spike run and run into the cracks to get away from the spikes. Hope this helps you guys

8:58 for anyone reading this. The sword lounge is not a good way to get past. As he said there is a lever but there is actually 4 levers that you can pull to stop all the wheels from spinning. I don’t think that it’s made to be possible to just walk through. I hope this comment helped you.

I just finished this tall tale today. The total hours to get ashen curse is about 2 or 3 hours with sailing back and forth. And the spinning blade part, the first lever is located to right (which shown in the video), 2. Left if you search carefully, 3. Behind some kind of rock pillar(?), 4. In the water. But great vid man!

When you go past where sticher Jim is you can see a weird statue with glowing eyes and you can teleport back into the first room without needing to restart. But don’t forget that you need to complete it multiple times. It’s mostly for the annoying journals.

Hot tip: don't bother killing any waves of skeletons. Kill only the melee ones with a sword lunge and leave the one blunderbuss skelly alive, then use the pully/capstan/whatever. You'll take a little damage from him but you won't die if you're full health. Way faster than killing any waves.

Thanks for guide. Actually you dont have to complete 3 times from beginning, when you get the journal on 1st door then use marmaid statue “return my ship” teleport your ship and vote to cancel mission on captain desk. After that you can vote again same mission right there and when you vote you will recieve mystical key on the captain desk. Now you have to run for 2nd door and get journal after that teleport ship with marmaid statue and same progress for 3rd door. When you get journals on 3rd door then you can complete (run to the end of story) ... thats the easy way 👍
PS: as Engineer Dv3 said on Saw Blades part there is a 4 lever on that room just find that levers and stop all Saw blades, after that you can free to go that path.

@Willyum Fancyson There is another way to exploit the checkpoints, you do the tall tale with a friend and have them disconnect before you finish it so they're still at the last checkpoint. You finish it, then they join back and place the checkpoint down. People are doing this to get the gold curse quickly without doing every tall tale 5 times.

When you need to do the cap stans you can leave a skeleton with a blunder there (you dont necessarily have to kill all the waves) and just raise the capstan it will not kill you, you will just take a lil dmg

Don't know if this suggestion has been made yet. A really good way to do this is to have a crewmate who already has the curse. That crewmate leaves the game before the chest of rage is given to Captain Pendragon. After the tale ends the crew member who left is brought back into the game. The crew member who left will have the final checkpoint for the tale, which they put down and voted on. This means that they get the key back right away, and skips having to sail back to Morrow's Peak and Liar's Backbone.

for the sawblades path, in the room with the three sawblades, there are four levers. one in the water by the entrance to the room that turns off the third blade, one on a pillar with wood sticking out, one on the left wall, that is slightly illuminated in blue light, and the one by the trap itself. Activating all four will disable all of the blades

Just to make this easier guys, if you only need to journals, once you get it for each room. Go to the mermaid and return to ship, cancel the tall tale and re-enter, this will save so much time of travelling back and fourth

@Rin they are mixed up between the three paths and 2 outside of the paths. One in the cave where you find the key, and one in front of the middle path. If you are having trouble finding them look up the locations online, hope this helps!

Can i just add that i did this one today, and what you can do without going forth and back is, when you get to the raging chest, you go a little further to a mermaid statue, and click port to ship, then swim back down to the other mermaid and click rejoin group, with that you don't have to end the tale and you can get all the books by doing it 1 time not 3.

Also you can stop after each completion and it saves. So if u go to morrow's then liar's then devil's and complete the tale tale once ur progress is saved for the ashen curse. So you could do it split it into different days

Doing this has made me so mad. My ship got sunk transporting the mysterious key by the flaming rocks of a volcano which I could have gotten out of if I had enough wood, And then my game crashed as soon as I was going to finish the mission on the second run. My day has been ruined. But thanks for the tutorial it was very helpful🙂

Do you have to do the tall tale multiple times or is it just once? Because I know that if you complete it once normally without the journals you get the ashen hull.

I don’t know what I did wrong, I read all the journals and used the mermaid to get back to my ship and then I used the mermaid at the front of the door in the water to get back in. I did all three doors and read all the books but it didn’t give it to me. I got the hull from it though.

On the spinning blade thing there's more switches to stop the blades

i spent 8 hours doing this (the biggest pirate ship kept spawning on me in the smallest one) and it unfortunately didn't work for me, and yes i did read the books every time

The spinning blade trap got 3 levers in that room to disable all spinning blades
