My older sister loved Floyd Cramer and I loved my big sis. In 1964 I bought The Best Of Floyd Cramer for her birthday. She took very special care of that album. My sister has now passed and that album resides with me 60 years later.

When I was 8 years old my grandparents had a huge Zenith console TV stereo and they had a Floyd Cramer LP. On The Rebound was on it and my very modern 1960's grandmother who was only 45 years old at the time would dance with me to it. My mom was embarrassed by it but not me! Not the least bit! Grandma left us in 1974. I still have fond childhood memories of her and still think about and miss her to this day. I'm 64 now. My wife and I play On The Rebound for our grand nieces and they love to watch us dance. And we are teaching them now.

First time I danced to this was with my Dad Sgt William Henry Dundas at the USA Armory in Corning, NY. He was in his dress uniform since he was the chaperone for the night. Everyone stopped to watch us. I was a teenager then and so proud neither of us skipped a beat. I've carried that memory with me since then. A very long time ago but fresh in my memory since tomorrow is Father's Day. My Dad is gone now but I don't miss the opportunity to tell him~Thanks for the dance Dad. I love you!

I could never get enough of Floyd Cramer when I was a kid, had no idea what he was doing, with that bent-note piano, or how he did it, but Last Date and On the Rebound are forever part of the soundtrack of my life. When I became a jazz DJ, my appreciation for Floyd Cramer's artistry deepened (when I was a kid, I had no idea what Mood Indigo was, on the flip side of On the Rebound) and, although I've never played piano, I think I have the barest glimpse of the depth of his talent.

One time, in the wee hours of the morning on my jazz show and for the sheer hell of it, I segued from Miles Davis' Someday My Prince Will Come to Last Date, which I had brought from my home library. This was a radio station for jazz purists, and I expected a few angry phone calls. I wasn't disappointed. The phone lit up, all right, but no one was complaining. Instead, the listeners were all asking, "What IS that, and who's playing it?" Magic.

Floyd Cramer was self-taught, learning to play by ear. He couldn't read music until later in adult life and never could sight read fast enough to play the music he'd written in his head... Which makes his composition ability that much more awe inspiring.

I was born in '64 but thanks to mama and older cousins I got exposed to this music at an early age. And I know I'm so fortunate for that. You're born with the ability Floyd Cramer had. You can't "learn" it. Period.

On this day in 1969 {March 16th} Floyd Cramer performed "On the Rebound" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show' Eight years earlier on March 6th, 1961 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #4 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... It reached #16 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart The record was his next release following his biggest hit, "Last Date", which peaked at #2 {for 4 weeks} on the Top 100 Floyd Cramer passed away on December 31st, 1997 at the age of 64

I'm glad to see many others, like me, grew up listening to Floyd Cramer. First LP I bought was Almost Persuaded, then I was hooked. His style is like no other and easy to recognize on many classic country hits from when he was a sessions musician.

Wow. like your old man, my older brother would play this anytime that I asked him. He has perfect pitch, plays by ear, and , when he was young, took some jazz piano lessons. He loved playing Night Train by James Brown. Happy that you got to listen to your Dad play it!

I used to hear this tune as a teenager on the radio and had all but forgotten about it but now I saw its title I thought I had liked it and decided to click on it and it sounds great. The piano is very well played and the percussion is great to hear too. Although I had not heard it in over fifty years it is still good to hear and enjoy.

Backing Elvis this man has been familiar a long, long time to me, and a very good and important accomppanist in that position, but his own projects on piano has not given so much before hearing this. Floyd Cramer is brilliant! Many great piano players that I love, such as Ray Charles and Oscar Peterson, among others. This is another great piano player. Floyd Cramer played piano on a song Elvis Presley did, "Heartbreak Hotel."

This is a very nice tune played in the piano which is not only good to hear but to dance it too. I recall my teen years when it was played on the radio I used to hear after finishing my High School homework. I remember all my family my late Kid Sister came to join me as she finished her School work too and my Dear Mother who started cooking supper for us as Dad came from the office. Nice remembrances.

I just want to say that "Last Date" was big hit in the US in early 60s and was played throughout the decade on commercials and other. I also heard this song as a kid (but not since), had forgotten it so GREAT to hear it again. Thanks!
