From Dawn to Dusk Gary's Version
FlyByNo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You would witness your planet falling apart
While you were making some art.
The ages are dark and left a few scars.
Secrets are locked into some keepsake.

Moanings were scattered from dawn to dusk
Children would utter some prayers.
Forsaken souls won't be enslaved
Their stories engraved into their caves.

Strange brawls to wars
Choose a side and crawl ideals just fade out
you fought without a doubt.

You long for a change
We crave for an end of tears.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to FlyByNo's song "From Dawn to Dusk Gary's Version" paint a picture of a world in chaos, where art and prayer exist alongside the scars of war and secrets kept hidden away. The first line, "You would witness your planet falling apart," sets a dark and foreboding tone for the rest of the song. Despite the chaos, though, art still exists, with one line stating that "While you were making some art," implying that even in the face of destruction, human creativity persists.

The middle of the song references the moanings and prayers of children, perhaps indicating innocence lost in the face of war and strife. The line "Forsaken souls won't be enslaved" suggests a sense of resilience, with those who have been left behind still holding onto their stories and carving them into the walls of caves as a way to preserve history.

The final lines of the song call for change, with the desire for an end to tears and conflict. The lines "Strange brawls to wars / Choose a side and crawl ideals just fade out / you fought without a doubt" seem to speak to the destructive nature of conflict, with ideals and principles fading away in the face of violence.

Overall, the song seems to depict a world on the brink of collapse, with conflict and destruction all around. However, amidst the chaos, there is still a sense of hope, with art, resilience, and a desire for change prevailing.

This joins Worship the Endless as one of my favorite video game soundtracks ever. I was at work playing the soundtrack when this caught my ear and I ended up repeating it a few times, stopping to replay it each time as it finished.

Gary's voice does a perfect job of capturing the haunting, melancholic, existential condition of the Endless universe, but it can be hard for me to hear the lyrics. I found the lyrics on bandcamp.

Once I realized what the lyrics were, I cried. I'm still crying. I zoom way, way out in my mind when I listen to music like this because the themes are so wide-reaching, even though they are so simple. "Fighting each other is unpleasant" has never won over "my way is the only/right way". Not even by land or sea, but ideology divides Earth's people into peoples, into factions, into sides. Each side is the good side, for which all other sides are the bad side. Many see war as the only solution, but regardless of the winner, war negatively affects everyone. I could go on all day about biases, empathy, lack of skepticism...

It's a humbling reminder that humans are yet to realize a complete collective consciousness, but we are getting better.
