Faithless
Flyte Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

How does it feel
Standing apart from all of the rest
How does it feel
Cutting the line in that low cut dress
No one really knows you
And no one shares your pain

I'll be there when you break their hearts
And I'll be there when you play your part
And I'll be there when they reel you in
And I'll be there when they clip your wings

And leave you faithless
Faithless
And leave you faithless
Faithless

And how does it feel
With no escape from the crowd as you walk down the street
And how does it feel
To no longer belong, to be so far out of reach
Just put the names with the faces
And learn to play the game

And I'll be there in my Sunday best
I'll be there, stood with all the rest
And I'll be there when they reel you in
And I'll be there when they clip your wings

And leave you faithless
Faithless
And leave you faithless
Faithless

And I'll be there when you break their hearts

And I'll be there when you play your part
And I'll be there to leave you faithless

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of “Faithless” by Flyte encourage the listener to consider standing apart from the norm, particular in situations such as social events, public spaces among others which can lead to individual self-discovery. The song implies that being different can sometimes lead to people feeling isolated and lonely. They describe how the singer stands apart from the rest of the crowd, feeling like an outsider. Although they look great and have no physical escape, they are far out of reach, which makes it hard for them to belong.

This song has a theme of betrayal, where the lyrics describe how the singer's wings, representing their freedom and individuality, will be clipped by others, making them feel faithless, disillusioned and stuck. The singer promises to be there for the singer through all their ups and downs, such as when they break people's hearts and when they play their part in the game of manipulation.

In conclusion, “Faithless” is a song that delves into the complexities of human interaction, specifically the fear of being ostracized for being different. It highlights how being true to oneself can lead to experiencing betrayal and disillusionment. The music video accompanying the song also carries the same theme, depicting a character who is disconnected from others and ultimately feels faithless.

This is great. And I have the album, a signed copy. But... some of you are missing out sooooo much. For years, there was a live version of this sung from their living room, like a demo. It was incredible. The best musical video on YouTube. This version is lovely but the underproduction of that original demo in the living room really complemented the four part harmony explosion in the choruses. It was incredible. I have no idea why the video has disappeared.
Love the backward solo here though.

I know exactly the video you mean and I'm so gutted it's gone. This is tremendous but there's something truly special about that really stripped back version of this song that the album version just can't quite capture
