Surfin' On Heroin
Forgotten Rebels Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Annette and Frankie went to junkie beach.
Lots of smack was so close to reach.
Shot up at a luau down at Waikiki.
Freakin' at the sunset now they're hap-happy.
Met Eric Zipper, introduced him to me.
Now I'm surfin' on heroin.
I'm so fucked up I can't remember my name.
Tried it once, I'll never feel the same.
I'm swimming in a sea of puke.
Lend me a quarter play myself on the juke.
Got my kid brother hooked yesterday.
Pimping him pays for my habit today.
I m surfin' on heroin. I'm surfin' on heroin.
Get a needle gonna stick it in.

I'm surfin' on heroin.
I'm so drugged up, I'm so fucked up. I'm surfin' on heroin.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Forgotten Rebels' song "Surfin' on Heroin" express a graphic portrayal of drug addiction, particularly heroin addiction. The lyrics depict the main character's introduction to heroin through his friends Annette and Frankie who went to "junkie beach" where they found "lots of smack" close to reach. They then proceed to take heroin at a luau party in Waikiki, leading to a state of euphoria, as depicted in the line "freakin' at the sunset now they're hap-happy". The singer of the song then reveals that he was introduced to heroin through a person named Eric Zipper.

The song maintains a tone of disillusionment and desperation as the lyrics go on to describe the negative effects of heroin addiction. The singer is so "fucked up" that he can't remember his name and is "swimming in a sea of puke". The addictive nature of the drug is highlighted in the line "Tried it once, I'll never feel the same" as he realizes the power heroin has over him. The singer then goes on to reveal that he has gotten his young brother hooked, resorting to pimping him out to pay for his own addiction. The last lines of the song reiterate the main message, that the singer is "Surfin' on heroin", and is so "drugged up" and "fucked up" that he has lost control.

Overall, "Surfin' on Heroin" serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers and destructive nature of drug addiction, particularly heroin. The lyrics paint a stark picture of the negative effects of heroin, and the addictive nature of the drug.

Met a Canadian Guy in the 81 or 82 in Hamburg - who borrowed me a tape of this earworm which of course I never return bit lost quickly. Had an epiphany today and recalled the band name after some agonizing. The sound is as fresh as it was back then. thanks Youtube and its many active contributors. Feels like the prodigal son returning.
