From the reading I've done it sounds to me that you have been codependent up to now. Ross Rosenberg calls this self-love deficit. Another person to listen to is Lisa Romano. It's good that you're looking into these things because it might stop you getting a marriage partner who takes too much and you give too much. I know you said you don’t believe in God. But I assume you believe in truth? (I understand not everyone believes in absolute truth (eg. Postmodernists)).
It is believed by many that God is absolute truth. He is unchanging regardless of time, space, culture etc. He is the same today as he was yesterday, and forever will be.
Check out Mere Christianity by CS Lewis. He was an atheist in his 20s and early 30s. Convos with J.R.R. Tolkien were influential in helping him come to faith in God.
Everyone has a different journey, it’s up to you to choose what you will follow. But we all follow something. :)

I used to struggle with knowing if God was pleased with me based on results (as though God was like my father). When I was able to change my mind(repent and have a God like understanding) I came to the conclusion that as long as I seek His wisdom in my decisions that he is still smiling, the results have no bearing on whether He is pleased with me or 😃.

As the saying goes, there are always exceptions to the rules. You can compare yourself to other people, only if that person is your model.
It is always a very strong motivation to have some successful people as your model, where you can copy the ways and means to succeed too.

FORMULA FOR SUCCESS:
1) copy the techniques of other successful people.
2) compare your success to yourself.
3) For 1 week, get at least 1% better than yourself in previous week.

If you can do that you will get 5% better than yourself in one year, which means in 4 yours you will be very different than your former self as you are now 20% better than your previous self 4 years ago.

If you want to make it faster make it 1% everyday and in 1 year you will be at least 37% better than yourself 1 year ago.

His Journey has been one of conflict and struggle, and I for one can appreciate his honesty. His hair is white and wavy and is long, down to the collar of His robe and light LIGHT comes forth from His whole body !
