Earthquake
Fort Hope Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Cuz you know I'd do the same
It's not that much to ask
And it feels like we're growing apart
And it feels like we're growing apart
I know you feel let down
You just seldom ever think
And it feels like we're systems apart
And it feels like we're systems apart...
And I will save you from an earthquake
I won't let anything get in my way...
Just keep searching till my arms ache
I won't let anything get in my way
I won't let anything get in my way
Way to go, it's a start
But we're still not over the hill
Though I'm surprised we've reached this far
Cuz it feels like we're making a start
Cuz it feels like we're making a start...
And I will save you from an earthquake
I won't let anything get in my way...
Just keep searching till my arms ache
I won't let anything get in my way
I won't let anything get in my way
The lyrics of Fort Hope's song "Earthquake" touch upon a relationship that seems to be falling apart, with the singer pleading with their partner to listen to them and not give up. The lyrics suggest that both sides may carry some blame as the singer admits that there are two sides to the coin, but points out that their partner needs to start thinking more. Despite the difficulties, the singer seems determined to save the relationship from crumbling, using the metaphor of an earthquake to symbolize the potential disaster that could happen if they don't work together to fix things. They promise to persevere with their partner, searching until their arms ache and not letting anything get in their way.
The metaphor of an earthquake is a powerful one, representing the potential for destruction and chaos. The singer seems to be saying that their relationship is teetering on the edge of disaster and it will take a lot of effort to stop it from crumbling completely. They reference the need to work together, suggesting that both partners must put in equal effort to make things work. Additionally, the repetition of the line "I won't let anything get in my way" suggests a determination to overcome any obstacles that may arise.
