Born in Jamaica in 1965, Blake was born blind but as a child had his sight partially restored by an operation on a hospital ship. He sang for, and impressed Stevie Wonder when Wonder visited the school that Blake attended, prompting him to pursue a singing career.
Adopting the stage name Frankie Paul, he first found fame in the early 1980s, and he recorded prolifically throughout the decade. He has recorded for virtually every producer and studio in Jamaica at some time, and has been known to release several albums a year.
Notable works of Frankie Paul include the popular "Sara" and "Worries in the Dance".
Paul has resided in Gambia since 1994. In January 2016 he underwent surgery to amputate a foot and part of his leg.
Frankie Paul died on 18 May 2017 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.
Citation
"Frankie Paul has a voice that improves with each release and, although initially compared with Dennis Brown, he has evolved a strange nasal, throaty style that makes him sound much older. It's the sheer exuberance of his best performances that give away his youthfulness, and his two London appearances have been joyous occasions." - NME (4 May 1985)

Stranger In Love
Frankie Paul Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
When you're in love
Life will be but a song
Heaven above yours will be ever long
Your soul will be aflame
With madness you can't tame
Love is not blind
When you're in love
You'll know joy
Unsurpassed
The magic of girl and boy
Yours at last
And then each day will be like spring
Your heart will start to sing
When your in love
musical interlude
When you're in love
You'll know joy
Unsurpassed
The magic of girl and boy
Yours at last
And then each day will be like spring
Your heart will start to sing
When your in love
The lyrics to Frankie Paul's song "Stranger in Love" are a declaration of the joys and pains of falling in love. The opening lines convey that love makes life feel like a song, and bliss seems eternal. However, the lyrics immediately change direction, discussing the sudden insecurity that love can bring. The lines "you tremble when you find/love is not blind" suggest that while love feels perfect, it can also feel daunting when reality inevitably sets in.
Despite this, the song's chorus remains upbeat and reaffirms the joys of being in love. "When you're in love, you'll know joy unsurpassed" suggests that the happiness that comes with love is worth the moments of doubt. Furthermore, the lyrics imply that love helps people see the magic in relationships, giving them a sense of ownership and power over their lives that was not previously present. Overall, the song encapsulates the emotions one feels when first falling in love: a mix of elation, doubt, and hope.
