There Must Be More To Live Than This
Freddie Mercury Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There must be more to life than this
There must be more to life than this
How do we cope in a world without love
Mending all those broken hearts
And tending to those crying faces
There must be more to life than living
There must be more than meets the eye
Why should it be just a case of black or white
There must be more to life than this

Why is this world so full of hate
People dying everywhere
And we destroy what we create
People fighting for their human rights
But we just go on saying see'est la vie
So this is life

There must be more to life than killing
A better way for us to survive
What good is life, in the end we all must die
There must be more to life than this

There must be more to life than this
There must be more to life than this
I live and hope for a world filled with love
Then we can all just live in peace

There must be more to life, much more to life
There must be more to life, more to life than this.

Overall Meaning

Freddie Mercury's song "There Must Be More to Life Than This" is a contemplative piece that queries the empty and tragic nature of the world. The song's first stanza explores the dehumanizing aspects of societal norms and posits the possibility of a life filled with love. The second stanza tells of the bleak circumstances in which people die and conflicts take place that destroy everything that the people build. The line "People fighting for their human rights, but we just go on saying 'c'est la vie'" highlights how we remain indifferent to the suffering of others while living our own lives until the problems knock on our doors.

The song raises essential questions about how we live our lives and how we contribute to the world around us. It underlines the need for a better understanding of what it means to live and how to create a better world. The song is a call to introspect and act in a way that adds value to the lives of those around us.

Not only is it another masterpiece of Freddie Mercury and his stunning voice and lyrics. The message of the song could not be more crucial and contemporary! ❤

I'll never understand why this album sold so few copies back in the day. Freddie had the purest voice and delivery. He lives on.

Oh߷

Limuskus

the sad thing is albums are only bought based on popularity not on skill or talent.

gx1tar1er

@Limuskus It has always been but the album that age well & has longevity will keep selling. The album that based on popularity or look usually does not age well & will be forgotten after the trend dies. Nevermind by Nirvana is both popularity & acclaim. You know Limp Bizkit Chocolate Starfish sold 6x platinum & now nobody care about it anymore.

mondkuss 57

@Limuskus The popularity is made by the media and they always play only Radio Gaga and songs like those. Most people don't want to rack their brains either, but just want to be "sounded".

Limuskus

@mondkuss 57 i agree, but just for the record radio gaga is my personal favorite song of all time.

I discovered this song last week, and I have to admit I cried. What a beautiful, beautiful song! Freddie's voice is the voice of an angel, and I feel so incredibly sad he isn't here with us.

La voz de Freddie una delicia, un ser tocado por Dios, su voz, su voz resuena en los confines de la eternidad.
