The Freestylers formed in 1996 when DJs and dance music producers Matt Cantor, Aston Harvey and (initially) Andrew Galea joined forces. All three of them had been involved in the British dance music scene since the 1980s. Cantor had recorded as Cut n' Paste and Strike with Andy Gardner (Plump DJs). Aston Harvey recorded as Blapps! Posse best known for the 1990 breakbeat dance hit "Don't Hold Back" before working with Definition of Sound, Rebel MC and DJ Rap (as DJ Rap and Aston). Harvey joined with Galea under the name Sol Brothers before Cantor was recruited to form the Freestylers. The group took their name from their first sample "Don't Stop The Rock" by Freestyle.

The trio's first single "Drop The Boom (AK-48)" on their own Scratch City Records in 1996 becoming a dancefloor hit in the UK and Miami. The band released the Freestyle EP in 1996 on Freskanova (Freskanova's parent label, Fresh, had released Cantor, Galea and Harvey's previous work). Andrew Galea left the Freestylers shortly after the release of the Freestyle EP.

After the departure of Andrew Galea, Matt and Aston formed an 11-piece band (initially an idea of their record label, Freskanova). This consisted of the 2 producers (Cantor and Harvey), a scratch DJ (Mad Doctor X), a guitarist (Tony Ayiotou), drummer (Clive Jenner), bass guitarist (Joe Henson), 2 MCs (MC Navigator and Tenor Fly) and 3 breakdancers (Coza, Marat, Tim).

The band's first album We Rock Hard was released in 1998. The single "B-Boy Stance" became a singles hit in the UK in 1998 featuring the contributions of rapper Tenor Fly. In 1999, the Freestylers enjoyed success in the U.S. with track "Don't Stop" reached the top 10 of the Billboard dance charts and "Here We Go" becoming a MTV Buzzworthy clip. We Rock Hard sold well in the US selling over 150,000 and reaching the top 30 of the Billboard Heatseeker chart.

Following the success of B-Boy Stance, the band were asked to remix tracks by Audioweb, Afrika Bambaataa and the Jungle Brothers as well as a big beat compilation album FSUK 2 and a Radio 1 Essential Mix featuring Beenie Man, Public Enemy, Whodini and The Fall.

The Freestylers released a mix album Electro Science in 2000. Their second album Pressure Point was released in 2001 with the track Get Down Massive featuring Navigator reaching top 20 on the Billboard dance charts in 2002.

During 2002 and 2003 the group began releasing singles under the artist name Raw As F**k which then became the title of their third album. Released in 2004, it featured the single "Push Up", which reached the top 30 in the UK and top 3 in Australia. Another single, which was previously released before "Push Up", called "Get A Life", was re-released and reached the top 20 in Australia.

He 10000% lying. I literally go to Woodward and have watched thousands of professionals grow up and progress and I can tell you now that NOBODY IN THE WORLD progresses this fast.

This is like 2 years of riding if I would have to say and that’s with a bmx teacher…

He even says in the video that he broke his leg and sprained his ankle and couldn’t ride for 3-4 out of those 12 months… there’s just no way he learned all that in 9 months unless he’s got super powers

@Nir BkMX ive had the same issue, i'll try this out. i tend to land tilted to one side or another with handlebars turned in, ready to fakie-out and it really throws me off balance hard.

my fakies are pretty good, i first practiced them off of a fence/wall and then moved on to banks and quarters, i also accidentally learned rock to fakies, when i'd occasionally get my wheel behind the coping when practicing fakies. i barely ever mess them up anymore, unless i'm going for distance, the further i'm trying to go the more likely i will not ride away, but it definitely shouldn't limit 180s when it's a matter of catching the balance right. when i do, usually i just ride those 180s away, but the consistency is next to none. there are days when i get 5 done and some that i try all day and can't get a single one

next thing i struggle with is riding away footjams/tail press/nose pivot 180s in fakie. i just can't generate the backward motion and usually i just stop as soon as i hit the ground. got any tips on that?

but overall, sick progression dude. im amazed at your bunny hop technique, because they seem effortless and get quite a lot of height. and in general i think you're quite a technical rider, the footjam no hander kinda dropped my jaw, definitely didn't expect this, but the other footjam variatons looked very impressive, too

Work on your bike control a little more, develop your style before learning trendy tricks. Popular tricks come and go but airing quarters like Sergio Layos never gets old. You’re amazing kid! Damn little brother that was sick!!! Great job. I started riding when I was 14 and I did nothing but race for the first couple of years but that gave me good dirt and street skills and the rest just came but you're farther along then I would have been. I'm 50 now but I still ride as much as possible and I try not to do stuff I know I probably can't do. Work on getting your front end up out of grinds and get more air but if you're not comfortable then don't do it. You got skills brother. Skills that could translate into big money💰💰💰. Think of how awesome getting paid to do your favorite hobby! Trust me it's nice. Keep up the good work and always wear a helmet. Most importantly get your education.

Despite watching a variety of videos and trying it on my own for 2 years, only with an instructor was I able to feel the feeling and repeat it without help

Thanks man. My first bike was a mongoose legion L40, it’s a cheap complete bike and and within the first 2 months the axles and rims bent, the headset bearing cracked and I had to get a new bike. My second bike was a GT air and it also didn’t last long. After that I got a custom bike and I’ve been riding it ever since

@Fabian Bevan I have 3 days trying on flat and bowl(that is one week) but my rear wheel got bent, I'm stuck in 90°

@Fabian Bevan for me it mostly came down to doing the bunny hop motion and turning my head and shoulders and looking 180 degrees behind me, once you do that your bike will follow. Another thing that helped me was watching many tutorials on YouTube

Insane progression, im starting to get into bmx and I've been wondering if im doing trick like bars and whips should i take my breaks off?

Thanks, and yeah I think you should take off your breaks, even though you can still use gyro or straight cable brakes and still do bars, but I prefer being brakeless cause it reduces the need for bike maintenance and it removes interference with the brakes being rubbed on the back wheel. Also while having a break and doing bars your fingers can easily get scratched by the brake lever whenever you spins the bars
