Black March
Front Line Assembly Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Standing in the corner

Ordered it's time to go

Who has self-control?
Conflict in the making

It may just stand for reason
Only for the soul

The situation changes
But only for a while

You barely get to see it

Before you've fallen down

The only way to fight it
Is striking back again

Standing in the corner

Ordered it's time to go

Conflict in the making
Who has self-control?

So what's wrong?Orders
Standing in the corner

Ordered it's time to go
Conflict in the making

Who has self-control?

The situation changes
But only for a while

You barely get to see it
Before you've fallen down

The only way to fight it
Is striking back again

Planning in the trenches

Just to fight again
Standing standing
Standing in the corner

Ordered it's time to go

Conflict in the making
Who has self-control?

The situation changes
But only for a while

Igorance or treason will be the final blow

The only way to fight this is taking back your will
Planning in the trenches I've lost the will to kill

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Front Line Assembly's song Black March seem to describe a scenario where an individual is caught in a constant state of conflict, with the situation continually changing, but only temporarily. The opening lines suggest that the person is cornered and ordered to leave, indicating that they may be in a situation where they are being forced to make a decision or take action. The next lines, “who has self-control?” indicate that the conflict is internal, and the person is struggling to maintain their composure and make rational decisions.

The following sections describe the transitory nature of the situation, with the lyrics, “The situation changes, but only for a while,” indicating that there is a perpetual state of flux at play. The lines “you barely get to see it, before you've fallen down,” suggest that the person is constantly falling victim to the changing circumstances and unable to keep up.

The refrain, “The only way to fight it is striking back again,” suggests that the person has become embroiled in a fight or is trying to gain control over their situation. The lyrics “…planning in the trenches, just to fight again” further indicate that they are constantly engaged in a battle of some sort, with no apparent end in sight. The final lines, “I've lost the will to kill,” suggest that the person may have begun to tire of the struggle and might be considering giving up, but they finally muster enough strength to “take back their will” and fight one more time.

one of the best songs ever made.

I wonder if I'm the only FLA fan on this planet who thinks Initial Command is the best album they ever put out.

soulminer 1970

Maybe. The first LP I bought by them was Gashed Senses and then this one.

Derrick Williams

actually no, its my favorite too...I mean I know the equipment he used was really primitive, and he hadn't quite honed his song writing craft, but I really enjoy the sounds on this album, he did some amazing stuff with a low end synthesizer and probably next to no budget.

Lars-Åke Andersson

I am here...

Jonas Caspersson

Nahh, I'm with ya!

HARIS THOT

EXCELLENT!!!

How Green Is My Toupee

Sounds a lot like "People" from "Nerve War" except instead of the "Baybe" sample, it's "These are people" sample.

The reason I think people get confused on dates is because Cleopatra re-released a bunch of stuff later.

mono riot

"the initial command" is from 1987 not 1992.
