Neologic Spasm
Front Line Assembly Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So strange is the feeling
Sinking down below
Caught in the current
By the undertow
Silence now is falling
so quiet is the rage
Gasping for another breath
Survival is the game

[Chorus]
Dying sensation
Fascination
Expectation
Re-creation
You kick You scream
And try to shout
But no one is there to hear
Water fills up in your lungs
The end is getting near
Attraction sucks you down below
Shockwave hits you hard
Effectors of hypoxia
Now you can't go far
Under the water
where you cannot breathe
Chocking feeling
Sinking deep

So strange is the haze
The colors turning gray
Shadows of illusions
All looking the same
A spectrum of eternal thoughts
left so far behind
Things that we had hoped for
Now will never find
Under the water
where you cannot breathe
Chocking feeling
Sinking deep
[Chorus]
Dying sensation
Fascination
Under the water
where you cannot breathe
Chocking feeling
Sinking deep
Under the water
where you cannot breathe

Chocking feeling
Sinking deep

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Front Line Assembly's song "Neologic Spasm" describe a feeling of drowning or suffocation, both physically and mentally. The first verse describes the physical sensation of sinking below the water's surface, caught in the current and unable to breathe. The silence and quiet rage suggest a sense of resignation and helplessness, as the singer gasps for air and tries to survive. The chorus uses the repetition of "dying sensation, fascination, expectation, re-creation" to emphasize the cyclical and unavoidable nature of this struggle, as the singer kicks and screams but ultimately succumbs to the water filling up their lungs. The second verse focuses more on the mental aspect of drowning, with the "haze" and "gray" colors representing a loss of clarity and hope. The "shadows of illusions" suggest that the singer's sense of reality is distorted as they sink deeper and deeper. Overall, the song is a powerful metaphor for the feeling of being trapped, overwhelmed, and unable to escape.

@billc307

I saw them on this tour at the Metro in Chicago. Die Krupps opened. One of the best shows I saw in my life.

@xombieflexhband883

I saw them in Glasgow on this tour, supported by Cubanate. I’d have loved to see them with DK!

@Ancient1

Just an amazing jam!!

@quiddd

One of the last great industrial albums.

@Laurita7

I always think it’s so awesomely interesting how FLA does the “play on words” with their titles and changes around what it usually is. “Neologic” instead of “neurological” (even though this song is more about that! Lol), “Shifting through..” instead of “Sifting”, “Echogenetic” instead of “Echogenic” etc. forgive me for being a nerd, I just think that’s so cool! They rule.😎

Latexxx Teens also did the same cool word scheme with two of their songs:

(S)Aint (R)Evolution
(P)Resident Evil

@SimonEBurgess

I was too young listening to them, so I never realized, not being a native language speaker. Then the words they used just became entrenched as normal for me. Mind blown, decades later. Thanks.

I found out about this album and the previus one through Devin Townsend.. great ones both!
