History
The group appeared on several German compilations and, in 1996, released their debut album Thanks for Nothing. Following the release of two limited edition EPs (Words of Power and Take Care), Funker Vogt signed with the American record label Metropolis Records. Metropolis re-released Thanks for Nothing, followed by the We Came to Kill in late 1997.[1] Kästel and Thomas have participated, as remixers, on Leæther Strip album Yes, I'm Limited, Vol. 2. In 2000, Funker Vogt released Maschine Zeit, followed by the remix EP T in early 2001.[1] Additionally to the core members of the band, concert members also include Björn Böttcher (keyboard) and Frank Schweigert (guitar, he replaced Thomas Kroll in 2004). Kai Schmidt writes most of the lyrics and manages the band through his own management company.[2] They all hail from the town of Hamelin in Germany. The majority of their lyrics revolve around the concepts of war.
A distinctive theme is present in the band's work and stage presence; both their musicianship and their costuming are strongly reminiscent of military music and dress.[3] This military aesthetic is also popular with the band's fanbase. However, the political stance of Funker Vogt is decidedly anti-war; the band cites "war and social injustice" as their primary topics of discussion, noting that the goal of the album Execution Tracks, along with the accompanying video, was to "present the grotesque cruelties and the tragedy of war."
According to the band's website, as of 2011 both Björn Böttcher and Kai Schmidt are no longer collaborating with the band. As a result, Funker Vogt will no longer be managed by REPOMANagement.[4] In 2013, longtime frontman Jens Kästel left the band after his last show on 30 November in Berlin.[5] Four years later in 2017 Funker Vogt reform with a new singer, Chris L. (Agonoize/The Sexorcist).

Funker Vogt Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Are we alone in space or what do we know?
How infinite is infinity?
And how eternal is eternity?
Why do we bleed or why do we breathe?
Don't we want to - or are we -
Too stupid to understand?
The creation of man, did it ever make sense?
Does the universe ever come to an end?
I watch the stars, what is the sense of it all?
Without doubt, we'll break before we fall
Is there anything else - or is it all?
Will we ever get smarter or is our brain so small?
How deep is the vastness of space?
Will we ever leave this place?
Why do we bleed or why do we breathe?
Don't we want to - or are we -
Too stupid to understand?
The creation of man, did it ever make sense?
Does the universe ever come to an end?
I watch the stars, what is the sense of it all?
Without doubt, we'll break before we fall
The creation of man, did it ever make sense?
Does the universe ever come to an end?
Will there be nothing or what god will we face?
Is it paradise or an empty space?
An empty space
An empty space
An empty space
The creation of man, did it ever make sense?
Does the universe ever come to an end?
I watch the stars, what is the sense of it all?
Without doubt, we'll break before we fall
The creation of man, did it ever make sense?
Does the universe ever come to an end?
Will there be nothing or what god will we face?
Is it paradise or an empty space?
An empty space
An empty space
An empty space
The lyrics of Funker Vogt's song "Gaia" explore existential questions about the origins and purpose of humanity, as well as the vastness of the universe. The song begins by pondering where we come from and where we go, questioning if we are alone in space and how much we really know. It raises inquiries about the infinite nature of infinity and the eternal nature of eternity, highlighting the futility of fully understanding these concepts.
The lyrics then delve into the perplexity of human existence, wondering why we bleed and breathe, and whether we truly desire to understand or if our intelligence is limited. The creation of mankind is questioned, with uncertainty about its purpose and sense. The vastness of the universe is contemplated, as the singer watches the stars and questions the meaning behind it all. The lyrics suggest that despite any doubts or uncertainties, humanity is destined to break rather than fall, emphasizing the fragility of our existence.
The song concludes with further contemplations, addressing whether there is anything else beyond what we perceive, if our intelligence will ever evolve, and whether we will ever leave our current place of existence. It raises the ultimate query of whether the universe will come to an end or continue infinitely. The mention of facing a god or an empty space raises the possibility of an afterlife or the absence thereof, leaving these questions unanswered and open to interpretation.
Overall, "Gaia" by Funker Vogt reflects on the mysteries and uncertainties of human existence, our limited understanding of the universe, and the inherent challenges in grasping the meaning and purpose behind it all. It invites listeners to ponder these profound questions and confront the vastness of the unknown.
