Love is the Slug
Fuzzbox Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can't I get just one look
My name must be last in your book
I feel emotion
I feel pain
What I'd give to see you again

You told me one big lie
You gave me the "I'll love you till I die"
Now just look where you are
Sitting next to her in her car

Whatever she says it goes
Whatever she does is shows
In her face I see the sign
This belongs to her, and he's mine

Don't you realize she's trapped you there?
She's got you and trapped you in her lair
Can't restrain but all you need to know
Is what is she doing and where is she to go?

After all I stood from you, is this the way you treat me now?
After all I stood from you, is this the way you treat me now?
After all I stood from you, is this the way you treat me now?
After all I stood from you, (No, no, is this the way you treat me, no)
Is this the way you treat me now?

Can't I get just one look
My name must be last in your book
I feel emotion
I feel pain
What I'd give to see you again

I gave you my love some time ago
I sowed the seeds hoping it would grow
But then along came her with the knife
And now there is no afterlife

Whatever she says it goes
Whatever she does it shows

In her face I see the sign
This belongs to her, and he's mine.

Overall Meaning

The song "Love Is the Slug" by Fuzzbox is a heart-wrenching tribute to the pain of unrequited love. The lyrics begin with a plea for attention, with the singer asking for just one look from an unattainable love interest. The pain and emotion of the singer is palpable as they express their longing, but it is clear that their feelings are not reciprocated. The singer is left with nothing but the memory of their love, adding to their feeling of loneliness and rejection.

The lyrics then turn to a more bitter tone as the singer reflects on a past relationship where they were lied to and ultimately abandoned. They watch as this former love interest, now with someone else, is trapped in a controlling and unhealthy relationship. The singer's bitterness is evident as they express their feelings about the new partner in their former love interest's life, referring to them as the one who stole their love away. The lyrics end with a sense of resignation as the singer reflects on the futility of their love, and how it has left them feeling empty and alone.

Overall, "Love Is the Slug" is a poignant reminder of the pain caused by unrequited love and the difficulty of moving on from it. The lyrics are honest and impactful, providing a relatable story about a love that just wasn't meant to be.

Love how Tina spends the whole video sorting through her bag. My first girlfriend had a Tardis bag as well. Great. Still love Fuzzbox.💖👍

I thought this was a 2021 retro 80s band. Never heard of Fuzzbox and I lived the 80s. Very cool indeed.

@rbsommerv

100% agree!

@DominiqueVanheusden

Actually they were named “We’ve Got a Fuzzbox and We’re Gonna Use It”.

@eddiewillers1

@@DominiqueVanheusden And they were very indie.

@TheAstronomyFloyd

So you’ve never heard Pink Sunshine? I wasn’t even alive in the 80s and I’ve known that song for years

I saw Fuzzbox on MTV's "120 Minutes" growing up. I had this album on cassette and took it everywhere with me. I was 11 years old! Love Fuzzbox... so glad this is here.

@timmiller1954

I saw the same show. 1986 I think.
