Ebb Tide
GQ Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Plants a kiss on the shore
Then rolls out to sea
And the sea is very still once more
So I rush to your side
Like the oncoming tide
With one burning thought
At last we're face to face
And as we kiss through an embrace
I can tell, I can feel
You are love, you are real
Really mine
In the wind, in the rain, in the sun
Like the tide at its ebb
I'm at peace in the web
Of your love, your love
The lyrics to GQ's song Ebb Tide tell the story of a love that is compared to the ebb and flow of the tide. The first verse describes the natural phenomenon of how the tide rushes in, touches the shore, and then rolls out to the sea. This is followed by the singer's own rush to their loved one's side, similar to how the tide rushes to the shore. The lyric "With one burning thought, will your arms open wide" expresses the singer's desire to be held and loved by their partner.
The second verse describes the intimate moment of being face to face and sharing a kiss. The singer can feel that their partner's love is real and that they are truly theirs. The final line of the song, "In the wind, in the rain, in the sun, like the tide at its ebb, I'm at peace in the web of your love, your love," expresses the singer's feeling of being at peace and complete because of the love they share with their partner.
The lyrics of Ebb Tide are a powerful and poetic representation of the ebb and flow of love. It compares the natural cycle of the tide to the cyclical nature of a romantic relationship. Just like the tide, there are moments of intense passion and moments of calmness and peace. The power of love is also highlighted in the lyrics, showing how it can bring peace and completion to a person's life.

Amazing!
One honest and perhaps naive question, the tenor seems to go a little flat on the post. Is this for tuning reasons with the accompaniment or just a human singer going flat? I ask because these girls are so solid that I wouldn't be surprised they'd do this on purpose for a technical reason. Thanks!

Your angel? I beg to differ. I have it on the best authority that there are professional angel singers that are taking notes on how it's done.
Seriously, I only discovered y'all a month ago, and have fallen in serious love with you as a group. Keep up the good work. Please.

yep. The more I listen to this, the more I realize that I was WAY out of line questioning someone's qualifications to angeldome. Seriously.
