Black & White Days
Gary Go Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Every word I said I meant it.
All the time I had I spent it.
Was there nothing I could do to prevent it.
I don't understand how so many plans fell like water through my hands.

But you, you color my black and white days.
You color my black and white days.
You do.
You color my black and white days.

I have changed as much as I can.
There's only so much change in one man.
I'm still trying to find who I am.
I would turn and run, back to where I begun.
But its easier said than done.
Then there's you.

To color my black and white days.
You color my black and white days.
You do.
You color my black and white days.
Color my black and white days.
I can count on you.
To color my black and white.
Color my black and white.

When your here.
I come to life.
When your here.
How I burn to feel everything that I feel we touch.

You color my black and white days.
Color my black and white days.
You do, you color my black and white days.
Color my black and white days.

But I wonder who colors your black and white days.
And colors me black and white.

Overall Meaning

Gary Go's "Black and White Days" is a song about feeling lost and uncertain in life while trying to figure out one's own identity. The first and second stanza talk about how the singer intended everything he said and spent all his time carrying out his plans, but fate did not seem to favor him as his plans fell through his hands like water. He ponders if there was anything he could have done to prevent the outcome but failed to understand the reason behind it all. Although he has changed himself as much as possible, he still feels lost needing to find his identity. However, there is one thing that shines through his chaos like a color, and it is "you" who adds meaning to his life.

In the chorus, he repeats the phrase "You color my black and white days" several times, indicating his love for the person who fills colors into his life. He highlights the importance of the person to him, and even though he plans always to go back to where he began, it turns out to be more challenging than he expected. The last verse, however, is interesting as he asks a question, "But I wonder who colors your black and white days, and colours me black and white," trying to understand if he adds value to the other person's life or is it one-sided.

In summary, the song is about trying to find yourself and losing your identity in the process, but a loved one comes along and adds meaning in life. The song emphasizes how important it is to have someone close to you, someone that colors your black and white days, and the fear of the possibility that the opposite can be true.

Wow.... great artist. Heard him for the first time when VH1's Sober House aired recently and fell in love with the song "Speak." Started listening to other songs by him... bottom line- the dude is fantastic! Nice to hear some decent and "true" music for a change. Go Gary... go!

I think Gary Go's music being featured on Sober House is going to do amazing things for him. When you hear songs like Speak and Hart and Soul and first time it's like WOW this is great stuff. It's not more of the over processed crap. It's real the lyics cut to the bone with the raw emotion...
