Born in the suburb of Santa Mesa in Manila on August 6, 1964, he is the sixth of Vicente Valenciano and Grimilda Santiago Ortiz’s seven children. Santiago Ortiz is a Puerto Rican woman of Italian descent who became a popular opera singer in Manila during the 1960s, and her love for music passed down to her son, Gary. He took his primary and secondary studies in La Salle Greenhills. It was during his high school days, while on a brief stint with the musical group Kundirana, that he devoted himself to music.
Valenciano started performing in 1982 and launched his career in singing and show business on May 13, 1983. He first appeared as a solo in a television show called The Pilita and Jackie Show in 1982, but he was finally noticed after his performances in the TV shows Germspesyal and Penthouse Live. He had his first solo concert, in April 1984, inside the jam-packed Araneta Coliseum. That would be followed by 21 albums, three of them released internationally, including a Christian inspired album called Out of the Dark.
He is married to Maria Anna Elizabeth "Angeli" Evangelista Pangilinan, with whom he has three children: Juan Paolo Martin (a vocalist of the band Salamin), Jose Angelo Gabriel (a dancer), and Kristina Maria Mikaela.
Wait Forever
Gary Valenciano Lyrics

Feel the sudden need to fly
Underneath the open sky
And the river down below
I could keep on running down
I could keep on cheating death and yet somehow
It all ends up the same
Ref;
Can you see that I don?t really have a choice at all
If only for a taste flight
I?d gladly take the fall
Chorus;
So, I say I love you
I don?t wanna wait forever
Just to say, I need you
Doesn?t even have to matter
If it really matter anything to you
I?d gladly take this ride
As long as you are there on the other side
Not making sense at all
Of making sense of it all
So while I can, i?ll take the chance,
I?m diving in
If you need me, I will die ?
To feel alive again
Chorus;
So, I say I love you
I don?t wanna wait forever
Just to say, I need you
Doesn?t even have to matter
When I say I love you, yeah yeah
I?m falling like
I?ve never done so before
I?m flying against the wind
And here I go
Chorus;
So, I say I love you
I don?t wanna wait forever
Just to say, I need you
I don?t wanna wait forever, no, oh oh (i say I love you)
So, while I can i?ll take the chance
So, i?ll say, I need you
Doesn?t even have to matter
When I say?
I love you so (i love you), I need you
It doesn?t really matter (no, it doesn?t really matter)
If it really matters anything to you
I love you...
The lyrics to Gary Valenciano's song Wait Forever describe a certain feeling of being stuck in between two opposing forces. The singer of the song is standing on the great divide, symbolically referring to the point of no return, where one needs to decide whether to keep on running down or face the truth. The sudden need to fly is a metaphor for the desire to break free and take risks, even if the outcome is not certain. The river down below represents the unknown and unpredictable future that awaits the singer.
However, despite the urge to take bold steps, the singer is aware that cheating death will lead to the same result, and he doesn't want to be blamed for the consequences. This shows a sense of maturity and rationality despite the feelings of restlessness. The chorus of the song is a declaration of love, as the singer admits that waiting forever is not an option, and he wants to express his feelings without hesitation. The line "If it really matters anything to you" shows that even if the feelings are not reciprocated, it is still worth taking the chance and being honest.
The bridge of the song is a continuation of the theme of taking chances despite the risk of failure. The line "If you need me, I will die - to feel alive again" shows a willingness to sacrifice for the sake of love. The song ends with the singer finally taking the leap of faith, as he falls like he's never done before and flies against the wind. This is a powerful image of embracing uncertainty and facing the future head-on, without fear.
