La de da de da da da
Well you can bump and grind
If it's good for your mind
Well you can twist and shout
Let it all hang out
But you won't fool the
Children of the revolution
Children of the revolution
No no
Well you can tear a plane
In the falling rain
I drive a Rolls Royce
'Cause it's good for my voice
But you won't fool the
Children of the revolution
No you won't fool the
Children of the revolution
No no
La de da
La de da de da da da
La de da
La de da de da de da da da
La de da
La de da de da da da
La de da
La de da
You won't fool the
Children of the revolution
No you won't fool the
Children of the revolution
No you won't fool the
Children of the revolution
No you won't fool
No no
You won't fool the children
No no you can tie
The photographic tight
You won't make it
Oh la de da
La de da
La de da de da da da
La de da
La de da de da de da da
Gavin Friday's song "Children of the Revolution" is a cover of a glam rock classic by T. Rex. The lyrics express that the youth and the coming generation cannot be fooled. The use of "La de da" in the chorus adds to the theatricality of the song and emphasizes its rock and roll vibe. The opening lines maybe suggesting that the society does not allow you to indulge in self-expression, but the children of the revolution always find a way. The use of "bump and grind" and "twist and shout" could be interpreted as the standard means of self-expression in society, but no matter how much one indulges in these actions to fool others, the children of the revolution stay true to their vision and see right through it.
The next verse suggests the possible material assets that one could have as a measure of their success. However, the similar idea is conveyed that these worldly objects may be good for one's own purposes, but it holds no importance regarding the way the children of the revolution perceive it. Here, the singer could be directing taking a dig at society's materialistic nature, suggesting that it's not enough to win over the younger generation. The final verses use the metaphor of tying a photographic tie, which could mean that even with the best attempt to put on a facade, the children of the revolution will always see through it.
