Kidman's breakthrough was in the 1989 thriller Dead Calm. Her performances in films such as Days Of Thunder (1990), To Die For (1995) and Moulin Rouge! (2001) won her critical acclaim, and her performance in The Hours (2002) was acknowledged with several notable film awards including the Academy Award for Best Actress, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. In 2003, Kidman received her star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, California.

She is also known for her marriage to Tom Cruise and her current marriage to country musician Keith Urban.

As a result of being born to Australian parents in Honolulu, Hawaii, Kidman has dual citizenship in Australia and the United States.

The 'Hindi Diamonds' number in Moulin Rouge was a fun and exciting well choreographed performance! I loved it the first time I watched it. Love how they were inspired by Bollywood musicals i.e. Hindi culture and how they modernized it with this music as if we were watching a Bollywood movie musical from 2001. Especially love the operatic style high notes Nicole sings at 1:21 to 1:45 and the other strange operatic unidentified voice singing softly at 2:56 to 3:05 to Love Nicole Kidman's 'Goddess' costume and the exotic set design. I love to put this music up loud! Especially

"Hindi" because it's an over-the-top Bollywood-style set piece with Hindi lyrics at the beginning.
"Diamonds" because that's what the English song is ("Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend").
"Sad" because Nicole Kidman's character Satine is dying and so a song about love being fleeting and diamonds lasting forever is painfully ironic: The diamonds might last, but she won't. Satine is aware of this while she is performing.
That's the simple answer. There are many layers of depth to what is happening in this scene, not to mention the culmination of multiple plotlines, and we as the audience know that we are watching a tragedy whose end is near.
