The Long And Winding Road
George Benson(조지 벤슨) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to you door

The wild and windy night
That the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears
Crying for the day
Why leave me standing here?
Let me know the way

Many times I've been alone
And many times I've cried
Anyway you'll never know
The many ways I've tried

And still they lead me back
To the long winding road
You left me standing here
A long long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here
Lead me to your door

But still they lead me back
To the long winding road
You left me standing here
A long long time ago
Don't keep me waiting here

Lead me to your door
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Overall Meaning

In "The Long And Winding Road," George Benson croons about a path that always leads him to a particular door - the door of the person he loves. He speaks of this path as a long and winding road, one that is not easy to traverse. However, it is a road that never disappears, even though he has seen it before. For Benson, it always leads him to the one he loves.

He then talks about a wild and windy night, full of rain that washed away a pool of tears he cried for that person. He implores her not to leave him standing there and asks her to let him know the way. He speaks of being alone and crying many times before, and how he has tried in many ways to no avail.

The chorus repeats the theme of the long and winding road and how it always leads him back to her door, even though she left him standing there a long time ago. He begs her not to keep him waiting and lead him to her door.

Through this song, Benson captures the journey of love - the ups and downs, the tears and the joys, and the longing for the one you love. The long and winding road is a metaphor for the path of love, one that is not easy, but always leads to the person you love in the end.

My dad introduced me to the Beatles first; then George. I listen to this, and it touches my soul. Just beautiful.

George is a bad man and that guitar is off the charts.

Let this song take you to an another place in time and close your eyes. Think about all those we all went through from our childhood and relationships. They were good and sometimes bad. But this makes us all stronger even during a "winding road" Good George Benson and Billy Ocean sings this very well.
