Prelude
Ginny Owens Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One day I decided I'd aspire to higher ambition
So I set out on a mission to change the world
Armed and dangerous with my well meant words and best intentions
I went sharing my convictions with every livin' soul
But it wasn't long 'til the lightning flashed
The storms of disenchantment crashed
And my ambitions were scattered by winds of doubt
And it wasn't long 'til I learned ot see
Life wouldn't always be easy for me

So I wrote a little song to remind myself

Overall Meaning

Ginny Owens's song "Prelude" is a poignant and introspective track that delves into the pitfalls of ambition and the harsh realities of life. The first stanza opens with the singer expressing their desire to aspire to higher ambition, believing that they have the power to change the world. They then go on to describe themselves as "armed and dangerous" with their words and intentions, indicating that they are confident in their ability to enact change. However, the next stanza shows the singer's disillusionment as their well-meaning convictions are met with the storms of disenchantment. The winds of doubt ultimately shatter their ambitions, leaving them disillusioned and uncertain.

The song is a powerful reminder of the struggle to maintain one's ideals in the face of doubt and disillusionment. It highlights the importance of self-reflection and the need to remind oneself of the reasons for pursuing one's ambitions in the first place. The mellow, contemplative nature of the song underscores the introspective nature of the lyrics and creates a reflective and thought-provoking ambiance.

(Forgive my language) I was 9 when this came out.
I was 12 when when I first heard this.
Im 31 now. Its been 12 years since I listened to this.
Damn it all i had no idea how bad a fire, how blured the road, how dark the nights would get, how much malicious evil i would come across... and how all those things indent on my soul.

Im no longer the innocent 12 year old that thought this song was "pretty"
Or the 19 year old that thought this song was "somewhat relatable"
Im a lost 31 year old that doesn't understand how someone inspired to write something so profound can praise and rejoice.
Im hardened and bitter. Im angry and vengeful. Im desperate and broken.
Life has shown 2 things. 1. Time is kind to no one. And 2. Sometimes you don't even get TIME to brutalize you.
Your ticket is punched and you have no say at all.
And honorable mention Sometimes there are people that choose when their ticket is punched.

I honestly don't know how one could leave it all to faith.

Aún no has terminado conmigo.

I was a sound guy at a church in Florida. She showed up early, the large was empty, sound amplified sound. She asked me to sit next to her, she warmed up with this song. No amplification, empty sanctuary, her voice and song brought me to tears. It truly changed my life. After many years it still brings me to tears.

I can't imagine how amazing that would be. I love her testimony and her voice.

Still moves me to tears like it did the first time I heard it many years ago. My valleys change, God’s love never changes and I’m thankful for that Truth in His promise.

Ginny Owens has that kind of voice that cuts right through to the heart. It is heartfelt, raw, and so natural that every word is a breath from the Spirt!
