Rehab
Girls Aloud Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said no, no, no
Yes I've been black but when I come back
You'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine
They tried to make me go to rehab
But I won't go, go, go

I'd rather be at home with Ray
I ain't got seventy days
'Cause there's nothing, there's nothing you could teach me
That I can't learn from Mr. Hathaway
I didn't get a lot in class
But I know it don't come in a shot glass

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said no, no, no
Yes I've been black but when I come back
You'll know, know, know
And I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine
They tried to make me go to rehab
But I won't go, go, go

The man said "Why, d'yer think you're here?"
I said "I've got no idea,
You see I'm gonna, I'm gonna, lose my baby,
So I always keep a bottle near"
And he said "I just think you're depressed
Oh kiss me, here baby, and go rest"

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said no, no, no
Yes I've been black but when I come back
You'll know, know, know

I don't ever wanna drink again
I just, ooh, I just need a friend
I'm not gonna, gonna spend ten weeks
Have everyone think I'm on the mend
It's not just my pride
It's just 'til these tears have dried

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I said no, no, no
Yes I've been black but when I come back
You'll know, know, know
And I ain't got the time
And if my daddy thinks I'm fine

They tried to make me go to rehab
But I won't go, go, go

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Girls Aloud's "Rehab" are about a reluctant person who is being urged to go to rehab but is refusing to do so. The song opens with the person acknowledging attempts to make them go to rehab but declining to do so. They explain that they have been through a difficult time but will be back and better than ever. They say they don't have time for rehab, and even if their father thinks they are okay, they still won't go.

The second verse is about the person's preference of being at home with Ray, rather than in rehab for seventy days. They feel that there is nothing rehab can teach them that they can't learn from Mr. Hathaway. They admit not getting much from classes, but they know that what they are going through cannot be cured by a shot glass.

The bridge of the song features a conversation between the person and a man, who asks why they think they are there. The person admits they are going to lose their baby, and that's why they always keep a bottle nearby. The man believes the person is depressed and suggests they rest.

The song concludes with the person expressing that they don't want to drink again and just need a friend. They refuse to spend ten weeks in rehab and have everyone think they are on the mend when they are not. They say it's not just about their pride but need time for their tears to dry.
