Coming Out of the Dark
Gloria Estefan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why be afraid if I'm not alone
Though life is never easy the rest is unknown
Up to now for me it's been hands against stone
Spent each and every moment
Searching for what to believe

Coming out of the dark, I finally see the light now
It's shining on me
Coming out of the dark I know the love that saved me
You're sharing with me

Starting again is part of the plan
And I'll be so much stronger holding your hand
Step by step I'll make it through I know I can
It may not make it easier but I have felt you
Near all the way

Coming out of the dark, I finally see the light now
And it's shining on me (I see the light, I see the light)
See the light (I see the light)
Coming out of the dark I know the love that saved me
You're sharing with me

(Forever, and ever I stand on the rock) I stand on the rock of your love
(Forever and ever)
Can't nobody stop me from watching
(Forever, and ever) I stand on the rock of your love
Love is all it takes, no matter what we face

(Coming out of the dark) coming out of the dark
I see the light, I feel love shinning on me (shining, shining)
Shining on me
Coming out of the dark I know the love that saved me
You're sharing, you're sharing with me, sharing with me, sharing with me

Coming out of the dark
Making it into the light
Your love shining on me, shining on me, shining on me
Coming out of the dark
I see the light, I see the light (I see the light)
Shining, shining, shining on me
(Shining, shining)
Coming out of the dark

I see the light now
Yes I see the light (shining, shining)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Gloria Estefan's "Coming Out of the Dark" talk about the singer's journey of coming out of a tough and dark phase of her life. The song starts off with the singer reassuring herself that she is not alone in this journey. She won't have to face the obstacles alone, as there is someone by her side. The rest is unknown means that there is uncertainty ahead, but she does not have to be afraid. She has been through hands against stone, meaning she has struggled and had a hard time, but now she is searching for something to believe to regain her strength.

In the chorus, Gloria talks about how she sees the light at the end of the tunnel. Her confidence and hope have returned, and she feels like she can make it through. She describes how love is what helped her overcome the darkness, and she now feels she is sharing this feeling as love has saved her. She is grateful and acknowledges this.

In the end, the song signifies how she has come out of the dark and is now back into the light. A new journey awaits her, starting again, which will be part of the plan, but this time she is determined to be much stronger and assured of love, and she knows that no one can stop her.

One tractor-trailer had jackknifed, blocking the road and backing up traffic. The bus halted behind another 18-wheeler. As it sat idling, a tractor-trailer driven by an Ontario man slammed into the rear of the bus and smashed it into the one ahead.

The driver of the tractor-trailer that skidded out of control on the snow-slicked road, Geraldo Samuels, was charged with driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed, police said.

“We were stopped, waiting for them to clear the road. I didn’t see him coming,” Jones said.

Gloria Estefan was sleeping in a bunk aboard the bus when they were hit. Emilio was talking on a mobile phone with the band’s secretary in Miami, Maria Elena Guerreiro.

“He was telling me how it was snowing and how beautiful it was. We were talking and suddenly, I lost him,” she said.

It was 12:15 p.m. Gloria was thrown from the bunk and onto the floor. Emilio Estefan was knocked unconscious. Minutes later, using the portable phone, the bus driver called the band’s road manager at the Onondaga County War Memorial in Syracuse, where Tuesday night’s concert was planned. But the call was cut off in seconds.

@alohatreasures7239

My family was hit with Covid 🥲 my father passed away on March 30 2021 I was hospitalized with Covid and pneumonia.

I had a dream of 🥲 my mother texting me. It says “ fight the devil! I saw the devil face”. The devil picked me up, like a rag doll and he throw me into the pit. I started swinging at them. They left me, and I was left alone. I cried out! Lord where are you? The next day I was transported to a nearby hospital. I truly thought, I was going to die. When they released me from the hospital, I was in a wheelchair and with oxygen. I been in bed for 2 month’s. I am finally walking and I am off of oxygen thanks to the prayers of friends and family.

This song helped me in the time of my darkness. However, I am struggle with losing my hair and standing for long period of time.

However, my faith is in the way maker and the promise keeper. My daughter is struggling with depression. We continue to pray daily.

Thank you for this beautiful song. I love all your music. Gloria, you’re my favorite artist, since the 80s

You're listening right now because you've experienced/ are experiencing struggle. Let this message be the encouragement you need to remember that you are capable and that the darkness is not enough to drown out your light. I love you. You're here for a reason.

Be the light. ❤

Guns have been prohibited in the US

@josephlong2791

Gloria went thru a lot and I love this song because she knows that God saved her life and healed her and she can walk and perform again. What a beautiful song. I can relate. Praise God 🙏

@manuelavaldez9972

This song will get me Thur as well the o lord keap bringing it to my heart when I was diagnosed

@sarcasticallyrearranged

Her having money for the best medical care is why she can still walk and perform.
The rest of us with spinal injuries would have done anything to receive the results she did.

@JimAllen-Persona

@@sarcasticallyrearranged Perhaps but you still have to acknowledge the strength it took for her to come back.. money itself is only a tool and just money wouldn’t have gotten her back. She willed herself back. Yeah, life is a shit sandwich and the more bread you have the less shit you have to eat. BTW,., how do you think you would have stood in Russia, China or a third world country with no medical resources? They’re jealous of you.
