1) Gojira is a metal band from Bayonne, France. Their lyrics focus on life, ecology, and spiritual themes. They were formed in 1996 by brothers Joe Duplantier (vocals and lead guitar) and Mario Duplantier (drums), Christian Andreu (guitar) and Alexandre Cornillon (bass guitar). Cornillon left the band in 2001 and Jean-Michel Labadie became their bass player. Genres that they have been associated with over their career include death metal, progressive metal, thrash metal and groove metal.
They had initially named their group Godzilla, but due to legal constraints had to change their name. They therefore chose to re-name their band Gojira - the original Japanese version of their name (in Japanese Gojira means gorilla-whale or gorilla the size of a whale). Some of the content of their music is focused on the ecological effects of human activity on the Earth.
Joe and Mario Duplantier also play in an experimental metal band called Empalot.
In 2007 Joe also became the bass player for former Sepultura members Max and Igor's new project, Cavalera Conspiracy.
2) Canadian powerviolence band existing from 1996-1998 based in Toronto, Ontario.
From Mars
Gojira Lyrics

Straight in the eyes and saw
That I had to move
To higher places
So I took my courage
In both hands
And I
I pushed off the ground
Took off from the red place
In the sky, I fly
I have lost my reason
And I've made my sense
From up there I will see
Where I'm from
And where
And where the force of love
To go
But why do you say
That you are lost?
If you don't even try
To find yourself
My words are a stair
I put my feet on
And I climb through
A starless night to my place
The lyrics to Gojira's song "From Mars" suggest a journey of personal discovery and self-growth. The opening lines indicate that the singer has noticed a need to elevate themselves to a higher level, both metaphorically and literally. The next few lines describe the act of summoning courage and using it to propel themselves into the unknown. The imagery of pushing off the ground and taking flight is a powerful metaphor for breaking free from limitations and taking control of one's destiny.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on what they've left behind and what they hope to gain from their journey. The line "I have lost my reason and I've made my sense" suggests that the singer has let go of their previous mindset in order to embrace something new. They are searching for a new perspective, a fresh outlook on life. The line "From up there I will see where I'm from and where the force of love to go" captures a sense of wonder and curiosity, indicating that the singer wants to explore their origins and discover the direction in which their heart is driving them.
Line by Line Meaning
I just looked myself
After introspection, I realized
Straight in the eyes and saw
I saw with clarity
That I had to move
I needed to take action
To higher places
Towards greater achievements
So I took my courage
I summoned my bravery
In both hands
With full conviction
And I
Then, I
I pushed off the ground
I leapt upwards
With all my might
With unwavering strength
Took off from the red place
Took off from Mars
In the sky, I fly
Flying through the upper atmosphere
I have lost my reason
I have lost my sense of direction
And I've made my sense
And I have regained it
From up there I will see
From a high vantage point, I will perceive
Where I'm from
My origins
And where
And also, where
And where the force of love
Where love's strength
To go
Leads me towards
But why do you say
However, why do you claim
That you are lost?
That you are confused and unguided?
If you don't even try
When you don't even attempt
To find yourself
To discover your true nature
My words are a stair
My words serve as a ladder
I put my feet on
I step onto
And I climb through
To ascend through
A starless night to my place
A darkness where no guidance may be found, towards my ultimate destination

Primitive In The Extreme
I bought this album as soon as it came out. After 18 years it still remains one of my favourite listens. And unfortunately we are getting closer and closer in reality to the themes dealt with on the album. Great Gojira for this masterpiece ✨🎶🪐🐋🪐🎶✨
