During their front act gig at the University of the East, they met Alan Ortiz, who then worked his way into organizing the various business matters of the band. As they worked with their new-found manager, the band got in the regional eliminations of the Nescafe Soundskool last October 18, 2008, where they got a chance to enter the finals.
After a short tour and some mentoring by the Nescafe Soundskool team at Boracay, the band went on to their main event, The Finals Night at the Ultra Sports Complex: The event that proved to be one of the highlights of the band’s history. There, they shared the stage with 6 Cyclemind to play the song Sandalan, and Gracenote’s original song, “Far Away”. Although they did not win in the event, they gained valuable experience and friends they will never forget.
Several gigs and a few months later, Gracenote once again joined another competition, the DZUP: College Collision Year 2. This was an annual fundraiser event held by DZUP that was held at Tiendesitas last March 15, 2009. There they won first place.
As of this writing, Gracenote has now just released its first self-entitled EP album.
Gracenote comes from the musical term “grace note”, a notation that signifies an ornament that serves to decorate a part of a song. For some, decorations seem small and unnecessary, but in the world of music, these little superfluities can make all the difference.
We are a collection of artists whose collective goal is to simply make good music. As individuals however, we are funny, eccentric, and sometimes totally out of this world. Yet we still manage to create songs that seem so familiar yet so different from anything you’ve ever heard.

thinking of it makes me wanna swim forever
until I reach you and wrap my arms around you
while your tears are wiped away by me
Hey you used to be just someone I see
when I pass through the gate
Someone I sit beside and laugh with
Now you're someone
Someone I love and my everyhing
I know that right now you're thinking of me
(you're thinking of me)
while you're walking
so I wish a wind would pass by you and whisper
That there's no one else that I love but you
Hey you used to be just someone I see
when I pass through the gate
Someone I sit beside and laugh with
Used to be just someone I meet
Now you're someone
Someone I love and my everyhing
Someone
Now you're someone
Now you're someone
Now you're someone
Now you're someone (someone)
Now you're someone (someone)
that I've been looking for
Now you're someone (someone)
Now you're someone (someone)
that I've been looking for
You used to be someone I see
and someone I just met
but now you're someone
Someone I love and my everything
Hey you used to be just someone I see
when I pass through the gate
Someone I sit beside and laugh with
Used to be just someone I meet
Now you're someone
Someone I love and my everyhing
The song "Someone" by Gracenote communicates a narrative of someone expressing their love to an individual who has now become everything to them. The first verse portrays the feeling of separation and distance, as the person is across the sea and the singer wants to swim to them. The singer wants to physically touch and comfort the person during their time of distress, wiping away their tears. The chorus emphasizes the significance of this special person's role in the singer's life. The musical style of the song is pop-rock, with the vocalist's clear voice being accompanied by a guitar, drums, and keyboard.
The second verse lets out the singer's thoughts about how their relationship has developed. The person used to be just someone the singer sees when passing through the gate, someone they can sit beside and laugh with. But now, the person has become everything to the singer. The bridge starts with the repetition of "now you're someone," emphasizing the significance they have in the singer's life. The repetition of it acts as a way of affirmation of how far they've come since just being strangers, and how much the relationship has developed. The singer expresses their desire for the person to know that they are loved, wanting the wind to carry that message to them.
In conclusion, "Someone" by Gracenote is about someone who has become everything to the singer, emphasizing the role this person has played in the singer's life. Through the lyrics, the singer expresses their desire to be physically present for the person they love and highlights how their relationship has grown from being just strangers.
